JACK BLANTON
Jack Blanton, Blanton Grain Co.
and former Mayor of Carrollton,
has been appointed to the Board
of Directors of the Dallas County
Chapter, American Red Cross, by
C. B. Peterson, Jr., chairman. His
appointment was announced after
he was named volunteer Commun-
ity Red Cross chairman of Carroll-
ton by Mayor R. J. Mclnnish.
“Blanton has already given ac-
tive service as Red Cross Fund
campaign chairman this year, ex-
ceeding Carrollton’s quota of $910
by raising $1,014 or 111%,’’ Pet-
erson said.
As the community chairman of
Carrollton, Mr. Blanton is respon-
sible for the overall direction and
coordination of Red Cross activi-
ties and programs, for leadership
to his committee members, to in-
terpret the work of the Red Cross,
and to assist with the campaign
for members and funds.
Blanton and his wife anc( two
daughters live at 1501 Francis in
Carrollton. He is a member of the
Carrollton Methodist Church, Ma-
sonic Lodge and a director of Boy
Scouts.
Born in Missouri, Blanton is a
graduate of SMU.
His other activities with Red
Cross inlcude service through dis-
aster relief following the floods
in 1949.
The Carrollton Lions lost their
first game in the state play-offs
Monday on the 2-hit pitching of
Kilgore hurler Bob Schumm. The
score was 8-1. The Lions were
slated to play at Kilgore Wed-
nesday in the best 2-out-ef-3
series. If the Lions win this one
a third game will decide who
will go to Austin for the state
finals. Schumm fanned nine.

The Carrollton High School
baseball team swept past Mount
Pleasant in two straight games
last week to capture Bi-District
honors and a spot opposite Kilgore
in this week’s regional round of
play in the state schoolboy dia-
mond playoffs.
Initial game of the regional
round was ischeduled here Monday
and the second at Kilgore Wednes-
day. A third game, if necessary,
The official 1960 census count
for the City of Carrollton is ex-
pected to be announced later this
week, Mayor Robert Mclnnish
said.
The mayor predicted that the
new figures would show a 10-
year growth from 1,610 to a pres-
ent 5,400.
Whatever the new figure is, it
will become outdated in a matter
of a few yeans, the mayor predict-
ed. The city will have at least five
major industrial plants under
construction this year with the
plants employing upwards of 1,000
employees.
Conservative estimated currently
are that the city will again double
its population in less than five
years.

LOCAL SWIMMING
POOL LEASED
Officials of the Underwater Div-
ers "Training School of Dallas an-
nounced today that the firm has
leased the local swimming pool
from the Community Youth Rec-
reation Association for one year
for an undisclosed figure.
Rick Seals and Charles Oliver,
who head the firm, made the an-
nouncement to The Chronicle.
Mr. Oliver will be pool man-
ager, it was disclosed.
Mr. Seals said the firm will hold
swimming classes and special skin
diving instructions at the pool
during the summer. Also planned
was a beauty contest with local
talent participating at a date to
be announced.
The City Council Monday night
discussed details of the proposed
$875,000 bond election with Homer
Hunter & Associates, consultant
engineers for the city.
The bond isisue, which will be
held Saturday, June 11 in four
separate propositions, will provide
$450,000 for waterworks improve-
ments, $300,000 for sewer system
improvements, $100,000 in Civic
Community Center bonds,. and
$25,000 for city hall and fire sta-
tion improvements.
All are general obligation tax
bonds and a moderate increase in
■valuation is propose!! if the bond
issue is approved. The city tax rate
of $1.40 per $100 valuation will be
unchanged, city officials said.
Approval of the bonds is ex-
pected to stimulate the sale of
city revenue bonds which were
approved some time ago.
The Council called the election
because of the impending growth
of the city. Announcement was re-
cently made that three major in-
dustrial plants will locate here.
These include the $5-million Otis
Engineering plant, now under con-
struction; a $2,000,000 Glidden
Co. plant, which tentatively plans
ground-breaking in July; and a
$1,000,000 plant for Allied Battery
Co.
Nearing completion is the new
Century Mfg. Co. plant, and the
expansion of the Emtex plant.
The five facilities are expected
to employ upwards of 1,000
workers.
Reports are current that other
major industries are seeking plant
The world’s largest mail order
house, Sears Roebuck and Com-
pany, is planning a gigantic 3-day
sale of famous Allstate tires at
Parkey’s Service Station, Valwood
Parkway and Denton Drive, May
26-27-28, it was announced by Lee
Eggleston, sales manager of Sears’
tire department.
Eggleston, a resident of Farmers
Branch, set Thursday, Friday and
Saturday of this week as the date
for the special Seans tire offer.
Parkey’s Station will be open from
9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. during the
3-day event.
Besides the special prices of-
fered by Sears in a page advertise-
sites in Carrollton.

said.

on Sears’ no-money-down plan
when you trade in your old tires,”
he stated. Allstate tires carry a

autumn’s close gridiron loss to the
East Texas team, the Lions over-
whelmed Mount Plaesant by a
19-8 margin in the bi-district
opener at Sulphur Springs, then
coasted into regional competition
with a 2-0 decision on their home
diamond.
In the Sulphur Springs fracas,
Coach Bill Skipping’s charges
jumped on Mount Pleasant pitch-
ers for 16 basehits and staged
two six-run uprisings after the
Tigers had taken a three-run lead
in the first inning.
