STATE LAUNCHES VENTURE
IN CHRONIC DISEASE CARE
A precedent-setting venture in
chronic disease management has
been launrhcd by the State De-
partment of Health. Immediate
beneficiaries are 12,000 patients
housed in Texas’ 587 licensed
nursing and convalescent care
homes.
Built around nutritional and
nunsing needs of oldsters, the
program promises to be the big-
gest boom to their health and
comfort since passage of the
nursing home licensure law in
1953. It works like this:
On request of county health of-
ficers and local health department
directors, a nutritionist, a chronic
disease nurse and two sanitarians
instruct local health department
staffs and nursing home operalors
in proper care of elder citizens,
many of them disabled by chronic
illness to the point of being bed-

WHEN WILL ATOMIC ENERGY MAKE YOUR ELECTRICITY?
J3ack <n 1905 (23 years after Edison developed
the first power plant) newspapers carried
Dr. Albert Einstein’s announcement to the
world of his startling discovery that all matter
is concentrated energy. Thirty-four years later
man learned to split the atom and in 1945
energy of the atom was used destructively in
the first atomic bomb. Today’s scientists and
technicians are trying to find ways to use this
new source of energy for peaceful progress
... including the making of electricity.
TP&L and 10 other electric companies in Texas
comprise the Texas Atomic Energy Research
Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated
to research regarding the use of atomic energy.
In addition to participation in the joint effort
in thermonuclear research, Texas Power A:
Light Company employs a full-time nuclear
research scientist.
It’s a long range program, of course... espe-
cially in Texas where natural gas and other
fuels arc plentiful.
This Company is constantly planning ahead..,
to assure you ample electric service at all times,
and to keep your cost of that service low. Since
1936 the cost of living has gone up 108%, yet
the average price paid per kilowatt-hour for
TP&L residential electricity has gone down
43%. It’s truly the biggest bargain in your
family budget!
