Revenue, 2101 Pacific Avenue,
Dallas. Texas).
WHICH FORM SHOULD TOD
USE
The 3 Types of Returns
In an effort to fit the tax re-
turns to the needs of the more
than 50,000,000 persons who
must file them, three types of
returns have been provided:
Form 1040A, Short-Form 1040,
and Long-Form 1040.
The law expects you to pay
your correct tax—no more, no
less. It will pay you to think
for a moment which Is the best
form in your case. To do this,
you should consider the size of
your income, the source of your
Income, and the amount of
your non-business deductions
such as medical expense, con-
tributions, Interest, taxes, and
child care expenses. The tax
table used in computing the tax
on Form 1040A and on the
Short-Form 1040 automatically
allows you approximately 10 per
cent of your Income to cover
your non-business deductions.
Income Less Than $5,000
1. The Form 1040A is the
simplest return of the three. If
you file this return, you do not
need to figure your tax. Just fill

People are a parade, not a static market.
Their wants change. They are open to buy
different things at different times. That is
why wise merchants do not try to reach
everyone with one ad — or two — or three.
It can’t be done. Smart advertisers run
ads REGULARLY in the paper at the head
of the parade — a newspaper serving this
trade area for 50 YEARS.

With Income of $5,000 or More
If your income was $5,000 or
more, you must use Long-Form
1040 In preparing your 1954 in-
come tax return. However, in
that case, you can either take a
standard deduction or Itemize
and claim your actual deduc-
tions. You should compare your
actual deductions with the
amount the standard deduction
allows you. If actual deductions
tyiceed the standard deduction,
you will save tax by electing to
Itemize them. If you are single,
or if you are married and file a
joint return, the standard de-
duction is 10 percent of your
adjusted gross income but not
more than $1,000.00. If hus-
band and wife file separate re-
turns and each had income of
$5,000.00 or more, the standard
deduction is a flat $500.00 for
each.
