INDUSTRIAL
BUILDING
PLANNED
It was announced-here today by
Jim Marsh, industrial chairman of
the Farmers Branch Chamber of
Commerce, that James A. Wim-
berley and Company will start
construction of the first specula-
tive industrial building in the
City of Farmers Branch early in
December.
The 49,000 square foot building
will occupy some four acres of
ground on Distribution Way near
Denton Road and Valwood in the
Valwood Industrial area. It is de-
signed to provide space for ten-
ants needing 4,000 or more square
feet and when filled to capacity
could house as many as 200 em-
ployees.
The one-story building of ex-
posed marble chipped face will be
dock-high to accommodate truck
and rail service. It will be served
by the Missouri-Kansas and Texas
Railroad and will be located about
100 yards from the Stemmons
Freeway leading directly into
downtown Dallas, some 10 miles
distant.
“Chamber leaders are enthusi-
astic that a Dallas developer has
enough confidence in this com-
munity to build such a large fa-
cility for future industry,” said
Chamber of Commerce President
G. M. Pointer. “The Chamber’s
Industrial Committee under the
direction of Mr. Marsh has been
encouraging this type building
fpr more than a year.”
Marsh said, “It is gratifying to
have the efforts of many months
climaxed by this contraction. In
the past year alone Farmers
Branch has lost at least six indus-
tries that it could have obtained
if such a building has been avail-
able for immediate occupancy. Of-
ten industries have need to re-lo-
cate immediately and are com-
pelled to go where adequate fa-
cilities already exist.”
Don Raburn, Chamber manager,
said, “This new building will place
Farmers Branch in a better posi-
tion in competing for industry
with the other industrial areas
and communities in Dallas Coun-
ty.”
Mr. Raburn also said, “Mr.
Wimberley is one of the most
competitive builders in the county.
He has been constructing indus-
trial buildings in Dallas County
and in other parts of Texas for
the last eight years.
“Included among these are
those occupied by General Elec-
tric Supply Company, Metropoli
tan Life Insurance Company,
Huntingburg Furniture Manufac-
turing Company, Reynolds & Rey-
nolds Manufacturing Company,
and McQuarry-Norris Manufactur-
ing Company, all of them are na-
tional concerns."
Marsh credited Bob Burns and
Tom Heath of Texas Power &
Light Company’s Iudustrial Devel-
opment Division for a great deal
of assistance and guidance in
bringing the project to a reality.
The reasons given for selecting
Farmers Branch as the site for
this building were its accessibility
to Dallas, Dallas telephone service
and postal service, a Dallas Ad-
dress, -an excellent city govern-
ment, and attractive living condi-
tions for industrial families.
Safety experts contend almost
15,000 automobile accidents could
be avoided annually if every state
maintained a vigorous program
for motor vehicle equipment in-
spection.
