HOME DEMONSTRATION
NEWS _
By Orene McClellan, County

AFTER-SCHOOL LUNCHES
VERY IMPORTANT
After school snacks should be
nutritious. Most school children
are hungry when they get home
from school. Well planned meal
snacks help complete -the daily
needs for food. Soft drinks, candy
and other sweets cannot fill this
need, reminds Orene McClellan,
County Home Demonstration
agent.
The wise mother provides vari-
ous kinds of fruit and vegetable
juices, milk, fresh fruits, sandwich
spreads, carrot sticks and celery
curls for hungry youngsters. These
are easy to prepare, appetizing
and nutritious.

INTERFACING IMPROVES
FINISHED GARMENT
Use interfacings for look of
quality and fashion.
Interfacing can give a more pro-
fessional look to your home sew-
ing, according to County Home
Demonstration Agent, Orene Mc-
Clellan. It gives additional body
to fabric and is a “must” with
many pattern designs. The secret
is in knowing where to use it, and
what kind of interfacing to use.
Interfacing is most likely to be
needed at edges where buttons
and buttonholes are to be placed,
according to the specialists. Col-
lars, cuffs and pocket flaps often
need interfacing to give them body
and the crisp, perky look that
adds style to a garment. Peplums.
yokes and the lower portions of
fitted jackets also are in need of
some additional body for a profes-
sional look.
Skirt waistbands may need a
single thickness of interfacing to
prevent unsightly stretching, roll-
ing or wrinkling. ■
There is no hard and fast rule
to follow in the selection of inter-
facing fabric. R should blend in
weight and texture with the outer
fabric to give the amount of stiff-
ness or softness desired.
If you expect to wash the gar-
ment, be sure to choose an inter-
facing that is washable. For the
quick drying synthetics, use an
interfacing that has similar prop-
