TEXAS FAIRS, 1911.
Forty-Two County, District and
- State Fairs to be Held This
V Fall.
The Commercial Secretaries and
Business Men’s Association of Tex-
as have issued the following con-
cerning fairs to be held this fall:
There is nothing that contributes
more toward the upbuilding of our
agricultural Interests than exhibits
of the products of the soil. The
Dallas Fair vividly illustrates
lustrates the educational advantages
to be derived from assembling the
(most perfect specimens of our soil
product and of our live stock and
the inspiration that we receive
from coming in contact with the tri-
umphs of nature makes us more able
citizens. ‘
The Commercial Secretaries Asso-
ciation tfas been gathering statistics
on county fairs and the reports re-
ceived show that there will be 42
fairs listed 10 are free admission
021 premiums will be offered and a
total of $116,960.24 will be given as
premiums.. Add to the list of premi-
ums the prizes which have already
been given and will be given by lo-
cal fairs, individuals and organiza-
tions not included in the list shown
above, and we will have a total pre-
mium list of approximately $150,000
for agricultural products in 1911.
These figures do not include $75,000
given as race purses. Of this
amount 52 per cent is for live stock
and 48 per cefit is for products of
the soil.
According to the data compiled by
the Commercial Secretaries there
will be 42 county, district and state
fairs held during 1911 as follows:
receipts to take care of the expense
of advertising, to meet the premi
ums and care for the necessary ex-
penses and this is invariably the
case with the larger fairs. Of the
fairs listed 10 are free admission
the educational advantages
and 32 charge gate receipts. s
The initial fair is usually held by
the Commercial club in connection
with a trades day, the merchants
offering prizes for the best agricul-
tural products but the fair quickly
I
outgrows restricted environments'
and soon becomes a powerful and
independent factor in the develop-
ment of the community.
County fairs will be discussed at
the annual convention of the Com-
mercial Secretaries and Business
Men’s Association at Dallas on
Thursday, Oct 5th.
