Rodeo Holds Show Two Big Days
Cowboy-Cowgirl-Float Parade
Jacksboro Reuni,on-Rodeo Asso-
ciation and the City of Jacksboro
played host to approximately
7,000 people here last Friday and
Saturday, as the third annual ro-
deo and reunion was held. M,ore
than $1,000.00 was paid out by
the Rod'eo Association for prize
money in the biggest Western
show ever to be staged here, ac-
cording to LeRoy Henderson. All
available grandstand and stand-
ing space was taken in the biggest
show of the two days which was
held Saturday.
All available parking space
was taken from 8 a. m. until late
in the night of Friday andSatur-
day as the celebrators milled
about the streets renewing ac-
quaintances. Visitors from many
sections of the state were here t,o
watch rodeo stars from Texas
and Oklahoma compete for the
cash prizes offered by the Rodeo
Association.
Each day’s festivities were
opened with a big float parade
Which formed at the northeast
corner of the Square and travers-
ed the distance of the Public
Square twice. Miss Eloise Gar-
ner, Queen of Rodeo, led the cow
gii-ls and boys and the Sponsor of
North Central District Fair from
Graham, Saturday morning.
The rodeo proper was started
with the school band, and a big
cowboy and c,owgirl parade in
the downtown section at 1 p. m.
daily.
As a fitting climax of the big
two days of celebrations, the
Light-crust Doughboys of Fort
Worth featured in an hour of mu-
sical entertainment and imita-
tions on the south court house
lawn, Saturday night. No official
figures are available of the crowd
that gathered to bear the famous
musicians but most of the grounds
were covered with visitors.
Bill Loving was established as
Jack County’s single horse shoe
pitching champion in the Cham-
ber of Commerce sponsored horse-
shoe pitching contest Friday. Dan
Morgan and Ed Bunnell, both of
Jacksboro, were named doubles
champions in Saturday’s compe-
tition. Loving, of Jermyn, and
the two Jacksboro men will rep-
resent Jack County in the compe-
tition in the district Fair in Gra-
ham early in October.
Efoise Garner will represent
Jacksboro in the Harvest Queen
Beauty Revue in Graham the
night of October 5th. She is the
recent winner of the Labor Day
Beauty Contests in Wichita Falls,
September 5th.
According to the statements
overheard on the streets after the
Saturday show, Jacksboro and
Jack County got an unestimable
amount of advertising and other
good out of the presentation of
this show by the Jacksboro Reun-
ion-Rodeo Association. It was the
general belief of those discussing
the well-handled rodeo proper
that it was the beginning of a
great career of rode,o presentation
by the Association.
The response of the people of
Jacksboro to this big show was
good and it is expected that next
year’s show will be a better one
than this one has been.

Painting Exhibited at Memorial
Christian Church
What was an unusual treat to
a number of Jacksboro people was
the exhibition, at the Memorial
Christian Church, last Thursday
evening, of a most beautiful
reproduction of Hoffman’s paint-
ing of Jesus teaching at the sea-
side, the w,ork of Mrs. A. J. Cher-
ryhomes. The painting was a gift
to the artist's son, George Cherry-
homes, now a minister in the
Christian Church.
The exhibition was prefaced by
an interesting talk by Mr. Dan
Morgan, pastor of the church,
and a solo, “The Lord Is My Shep-
herd,” by Mr. Cherryhomes, re-
cipient of the gift. At the show-
ing of the painting Mrs. Cherry-
homes gave a talk, explaining the
composition and grouping of the
different figures 'making up the
picture, before presenting same
to her son.
Light refreshments were served
and a very pleasant social period
was enjoyed, which included
; and admiring the paint-
uay different angles, gf
