When I read the words of an
address by Abe Lincoln given in
1859 in which he attributes the
statement "And this too, shall
pass away" to some Eastern
monarch, I am encouraged not to
worry too much about the
"important" things which occur
each day. We read in the Bible
also that all things shall pass. So
let's just be thankful that we have
our health while we are fulfilling
God's wishes.
Red ribbon week seems to
have gone well. 1 missed out on
the last day, as we were attend-
ing a bird ecology workshop
sponsored by the Marine Science
Department of Palacios schools.
We were blessed with good
weather and the cooperation of
our birds. A few, like the
caracara and osprey, we local
folks see; but we know they do
not come by every day. I had not
realized that white pelicans had
come back in increasing num-
bers. Brian Chapman, who has
spent quite a lot of time at the
Welder Refuge and the Rio
Grande and Mexico area, was
our leader and lecturer. He had a
good supply of specimens and
slides to get his point across. 1
think everyone had a good day
and enjoyed a shrimD supper on
tm
the porch of the old Hulen house
overlooking the bay. Wish ourG
of C would get behind the bird-'
ing promotion like Brownsville,
Corpus, Rockport. We do have-
the resources to bring in moije
folks who do spend money for
food and lodging.
An editorial by Representative
John Culberson, in which he
states we have essentially
enough money available to briqg,
our state's schools up to paiy
without a large tax increase, is, pit
particular interest. We surety
need no new taxes! As he stated
it is up to the legislature to free
up our available funds and s?e,
that they are used properly. I had
not realized that there was ho
statewide audit. This we should
have. And then we need to
realize that kids come first. A
All our beautiful buildings,
athletic equipment, etc. mean lit-
tle, if the students do not receive
the final benefit. Palacios has. a
progressive school system,
which seems to be doing well.'
Let’s protect it the best we can
by backing up our administrators
and teachers.
As a VFW member I must
add: Vote 4 Amendment 4; on
Nov. 7! -v.>
