$26,400 and won board ap-
proval to sandblast, wash and
paint the building's exterior.
Also bidding, at $31,630, was
Providence Coatings Corp. of
Bay City.
The paint job is one item on a
lengthy list of improvements to
upgrade Wagner. Work began
last summer on several projects
inside, including new quarters
for medical records, a larger
dining/meeting room and a des-
ignated smoking/lounge area.
Those first projects are now
nearing completion reported Don
Hyctt, Wagner administrator.
He noted that painting will
combine with a new Geo-Rock
roof and a new sign to improve
the appearance of the 30-year-old
hospital.
The board approved two items
of medical equipment for
Wagncr-a maternal-fetal monitor
and a K-thermia unit.
The Baxter RK-2000
Hypo/Hyperthermia Unit, with a
$7,020 price tag, functions as a
warming or cooling blanket in
cases of too-low or too-high
body temperature explained Dr.
Ray Spaw, Wagner chief of
staff.
Patients can become hy-
pothermic (body temperature too
low) from certain exposure situ-
ations or even as a result of
surgery, Spaw added. The de-
vice offers steady, controlled and
continuous warming. It can also
help cool body temperature in the
case of intractable high fever, he
pointed out.
The board also agreed to buy
a Corometrics matemal/fetal
monitor, at a cost of $10,725.
The monitor, which can measure
contractions of a woman's uterus
and monitor fetal heartbeat, will
replace an older unit to be re-
tained for backup, said Spaw.
