SUGAR FREE FOODS
AND CALORIES
“Sugar-free" or, “sugarless’’ foods
may be labeled “low calorie" or
“reduced calorie" if they meet the
Food and Drug Administration re-
quirements for those foods, says
Texas A&M University Agricultur-
al Extension Service nutritionist
Mary K. Sweeten. But some sugar-
free foods may contain sugar alco-
hols such as sorbitol, xylitol, or
mannitol, that have the same calor-
ies as sugar. These foods must state
that the product is. not for weight
control, she says. Foods that -have
substantial natural sugar content,
such as fruit in fruit juices, may
contain a factual statement that the
food is sweetened or contains no
added sugar.

Whon Report
Written hy Mrs. Tom Rutherford
On Smokeout Eve, November 14,
the Public Broadcasting System will
air a national television special on
smoking called “Breathing Easy”.
The one-hour variety show is geared
to teens and their families.
Please accept my apology for the
mistake I made in my news item last
week. I stated Mr..and Mrs. Tom
Vinson visited his cousins, Adelie
Vinson and her sister, Byble Quin-
ton in Santa Anna. This should have
read Mrs. Quinton (Syble) Sum-
mers, who has recently moved to
Santa Anna from the state of
Tennessee. 1 am sorry I failed to add
the Summers to her name. Syble is
also a sister of Mr. Homer Vinson in
Santa Anna. I am glad to correct
this mistake, but for some reason I
cannot promise I will never make
another. But will promise I will try
to make less mistakes. Thanks.
We are having beautiful weather.
Mrs. Floyd Morris reports at her
house this Monday morning was
frost. She noticed it glittering on the
car top and mentioned it to Mr.
Morris. He went to the car top, took
his knife and scraped ice off the top
of the car. Possibly we will have
more frost before we are ready to
accept it.
Mrs. Floyd Bennett of Mexia and
Mrs. Howard Williams and son
Larry of Pasadena visited with the
ladies’ sister, Mr. and Mrs. Riley
McFarlin in Santa Anna on Thurs-
day of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Lovelady of
Santa Anna visited Sunday after-
noon with Mrs. Lovelady's • niece,
Doris Laughlin in the Brownwood
Regional Hospital. We wish for her
a speedy recovery.
Last week I stated Mrs. Lily Fox
was admitted to the Coleman Hospi-
tal twice in succession. I am glad to
say Mrs. Lily Fox was dismissed
from the Coleman Hospital and is
making her home at the present
time in the Ranger Park Nursing
Home in.Santa Anna, and reported
Sunday as feeling some better.
Hopefully she will soon be back in
her home in Santa Anna.
Mrs. Floyd Morris visited on
Wednesday with her brother, Mr.
and Mrs. William Perkins in Cole-
man.
Mr. and Mrs. Byrl Brown of Cross
Plains visited with Mr..and Mrs.
Riley McFarlin in Santa Anna on
Wednesday night.
Melanie and Alicia Lovelady of
Brownwood were guests of their
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Darwin
Lovelady in Santa Anna on Satur-
day. The girls’ mother, Mrs. Randel
Lovelady, came for the girls and
visited for a while Saturday after-
noon.
Mr. and Mrs. Graham Fitzpatrick
visited Sunday morning with her
mother, Mrs. Mary Snowden in a
Brady rest home. Mrs. Fitzpatrick
reports her mother seemed to feel
better than a few days previous
when she was with her.
Sunday afternoon I was blessed
with telephone calls which I really
appreciated. Bill Rutherford from
California called and stated it was
very dry where he lives, but he is
feeling better than when we last
heard from them. Then Mrs. I. O.
(Mutt) Smith of Iraan called. Was so,
good talking with her. She sounded
like she was felling well and stated
she had been feeling extra well the
past two weeks. These are my
brother and sister-in-law. Then my
son, Thomas, called from New
Hampshire. All well there, rather
cold nights, but beautiful days. This
was treats to be very thankful for.
Guests in the hqme of Mr. and
Mrs. Floyd Morris during the week-
end were Mr. John David Morris of
Santa Anns, assisting with farm
Chores; Mrs. Jacky Morris and
children, Jeffery and Jennifer, also
of Santa Anna, Mr. Norman Floyd
Morris and grandson Rusty Garner
of Brownwood.
Mr. Loyd Rutherford accom-
panied Mr. Don Bible to his farm at
Junction Saturday afternoon and
reported everything beautiful
there. People are looking forward to
sunshine so they can continue -with
the hay baling. That is something
our community has had very little of
this year and season.
