Enthusiastic youngsters competed
Tuesday night In Coleman's first
annual little Olympics, with West
Ward School winning over South
Ward by 03 points to 41 points
The event was held at Hufford

West Ward School will be given
a plaque, and permanent records
of times set In the events will be
maintained. Winners of the first
three places were presented ribbons.
First place winners won three
points, second place winners got
two points and the third place
winners won one point.

throw line and we assume Wat
Doc was using his own bait.

Clyde Tate hooked a drum In the
cld city lake last week that would
weigh six or eight pounds. We
didn't find out how Clyde hooked
the big drum, but he must have
gotten him on a throw line.

Hassel Yates, R. W. Yates, Doyle
Meador and Mutt Comedy fished
overnight at Thrifty on Lake
Brownwood. Saturday night and
caught a four pound bass and three
catfish which averaged two and
one-half pounds. They used a trot
line and report that their catch
was the largest of any fishing group
In that section.

Jack Rambo fished Turtle Bayou
8unday, with Patsy Morris, Ed
Greaves and Patsy McKinley, and
the party caught a large black bass
and a drum. The water has clear-
ed, but the fish were biting.

Ask Sam Dibrell about that big
one that got away at Lake Scar-
borough. We understand that It
must have been “old fighter” him-
self. The commissioner will pro-
bably be back trying again.

In the tug-o-war, South Ward
came out the winner Class C boys
were competing In this event. For
many seconds the center flag wav-
lered from one side of the mark to
the other, finally the South Ward
boys got their heave-ho to work-
ing. This .event was highly applaud-
ed.

In the 400 yard shuttle race. West
Ward came out the winner, with
the team of Rankin, Cleveland,
Beall and McCree, time 51.6 sec-
onds. South Ward won second and 1
third places.
Mrs. Albert Knox and sen, Rickie
of Fort Worth are here this week. i
visiting with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. L. J. Maxwell.
Mrs. Cecil Stovall and Shirley
will visit In Lubbock and attend
graduation exercises on Monday-
night. Mrs. Stovall’s son. Fred, Gip-
son is one of the graduates and
will receive his BS degree (n mech-
anical engineering.
Visiting In the C. S. Goodman
home the past weekend were his
sister-in-law, Mrs. M. E. Ellis and
children of Fort Worth and his
son, Sgt. Donnie Gpodman Rnd hLs
friend, Sgt, Ray Archer, both of
Lackland Field In San Antonio.
Mr. and Mrs, Harold Kinney and
son, Alan, are attending the rodeo
in Abilene this week. The rodeo
started Wednesday and runs un-
til Saturday. Mr. Kinney entered
the cutting horse contest.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Roberts were
visiting In Austin Sunday.
Tom Roberts returned home from
Houston Sunday, where he had
been in the hospital.
Mr aiki Mrs. H D Harwell spent
Wednesday in faimpasa-s, where
they attended the funeral of a
friend.
Mr. and Mrs. Ford Talley and

Mrs. Dan DeRusha of Carlsbad
Is here for a visit with her parents,
Mr and Mrs. J. G. Parker and will
be here for graduation exercises at
the high school, her sister Patsy
being one of the graduates, She
will leave Saturday morning and
Patsy will accompahy her.
Mr, and Mrs. Richard Tate and
son Mike. Mr. and Mrs. John David
Tate of Stephenvtlie spent the past
weekend In Coleman, guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Clyde Tate.
Mr., and Mrs. C. M Strickland
have a.s their guests their grand-
daughter and her husband, Mr and
Mrs. W F. Mlttells Jr , of Visalia,
Calif They are spending their va-
cation here and at Glen Cove with

Lou Ooley of Spearman, arrived
today and will spend two weeks
here with her grandparents. Mrs

Guests here the past weekend of
Mi and Mrs. Jack Gandy were
the following of their children and
their families; Mrs J D. Barnett,
Jr., of Sundown; Mrs A H. Mc-
Casland and two children of Mes-
quite, Max Gandy of Midlothian;
and Mrs. E E Jameson Mrs Bar-
nett and Mrs McCasland and chil-
dren remained for a longer visit.
Mrs Billie B. Beach will go to
Austin Saturday to visit with her
sister, Mr^ Judy Mitchell and Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Sackett, Jr. and
children Mrs Beach’s mother. Mrs.
Josephine Hughes, who has spent
the past two months in Houston,
with another daughter, will meet
her ill Austin and accompany her
Mr. and Mrs, Alfred Eifcland and
Miss Earle Jean Woodard of Abi-
lene and Mrs. H. F. Waldrop at-
tended the graduation exercise* in
Santa Anna Monday night. Annie
Belle Price, a sister of Mrs. Eng-
land, was a graduate.
