NEW CENTRAL
(Bv Elizabeth Savage),
There is ah old oak tree standing
faithfully on guard at the top of a
I lovely hill. Its great old boughs
a:e slightly bent, and beneath Its
sheltering arms, half-hidden in the
weeds and grass lie a few scattered
rreks and pieces of broken glass.
Long ago childish hands placed
them there, and childish voices, In
the scented dusk of a summer's day,
laughed and talked and sang there.
' Now the old tree stands on guard.
