Plans were made to hold a silver
tea at the Garrett Hostess House
Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5
o'clock, at * meeting of the Busi-
ness and Professional Club Tuesday
evening at the Coleman Hotel. Pro-
ceeds from the tea will go to the
March of Dimes" fund A special
program will be presented during
the hours which will Include selec-
tions played by Chester Parks, violin
Instructor from Howard Payne Col-
lege.

er of the evening and her subject
was “What Makes a Good Law?"
During the business session with
Mrs. Potsie Mellen. president, pre-
siding. it was announced that Mrs
Ben Dunn. Mrs. Roes Russell, Mrs.
George Garrett. Mrs. S. L. Gilliam,
Mrs Billie B. Beach. Mrs Suzle
Wetzel. Mrs. Anna Wells and Mrs.
Mellen, would attend the conference
to be held In Austin. February 18
and 17. Miss Janette Blatherwick,
Miss Frances Stevens and Mrs.
Lang Martin were named on the
refreshment committee far the Sli-
ver Tea.

Engagement Told
Mr and Mrs. Charles Moore are
announcing the engagement of their
daughter, Dorothy, to J. C. Fuller,
of San Angelo, formerly of Talpa
and Waco. The wedding will be held
on February 14th at the First Bap-
tist church, with the pastor. Rev. T.
Lynn Stewart reading the ceremony
The bride Is a graduate of Cole-
man high school and was employed
by the local telephone company for
five years. She has been employed
by Moore Studio for the past two
years.
Mr. Fuller is a graduate of Talpa
high school He entered the armed
forces. October 13. 1942 and receiv-
ed his discharge, December 11, 1945
He was a sergeant In the Marine
Corps and served overseas from
March 7, 1944 to September 28,
1943, taking part In the engage-
ment of the Solomon Islands and
was In the entire battle of Okinawa.
He hdds several battle stars and
other military decorations. He Is
now employed In San Angelo by the,
San Angelo Water Works.

TALK ON AUSTRALIA
Mrs. E. M. Jones gave a talk on
“Australia" Tuesday afternoon when
the Shakespeare Club met In the li-
brary. This was one of a series of
programs on the Allied Nations be-
ing presented by the club.
Roll call was answered with cur-
rent events. Mrs. Hunter Woodruff
presided over the business session,
when Mrs. H. M. Thompson gave a
report on "International Relations “
Mrs. P. J. Reeves gave a report on
the division of "Mothercraft.” The
club chose crepe myrtle and red
buds, as a living memorial to ser-
vice men.

Mrs. P B. Llghtfoot was Miss
glta Lois Burleson, before her mar-
riage here January 26. The couple
have returned from a wedding trip
to Fort Worth He Is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Llghtfoot of
Santa Anna and she is the daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Burleson
of Coleman

FETED ON FOURTH BIRTHDAY
Celebrating the fourth birthday of
her son, Charles Cole Graves, Mrs.
Terrell Graves entertained with a
valentine party Tuesday afternoon
from 4 to 6 o'clock.
The group played with toys for
an hour, after which the honoree
unwrapped his gifts and showed
them to the guests. At tea time the
dining room was thrown open, the
guests gathered around the table
and sang “Happy Birthday to You.”
The table was centered with a re-
flector holding the large white
birthday cake, which was topped
with red and white confections, also

9:30 p.m. Friday. February 1st at
the South End Christian church in

The bride Is a 1943 graduate of
Mozelle high school and for the past
year has been working In the Hous-
ton District Office of the Office of
Price Administration.
The groom attended school In
Oakland, Calif., and has been serv-
ing In the United States Navy for
the past five and a half years.
The bride is at home at 1038 Ash-
land, Houston, Texas, while the
groom Is stationed at Galveston,
Texas.

A meeting of the Live At Home
Demonstration club was held Fri-
day afternoon In the Garrett Hos-
tess House, with Mrs. O. B, Kit-
chen, hostess.
Illustrated talks were given on
(lie "Strawberry Barrel" by Mrs.
Fred Garrett and the "Tub Oar-
den" by Mrs. J. T. Laird. The
club president, Mrs. Raymond Mc-
Elrath presided when 85 was con-
tributed to tiie “March of Dimes"
fund and a large collection of
clothing was contributed to cloth-
ing drive for war relief.
The February 16th meeting will
be held in the home of Mrs. J. T.
Laird, with 'Mrs. John Strickland,
co-hostess. During a social hour the
hostess served sandwiches, molded
salad, olives, cookies and coffee, to

The first meeting of the Ace of
Clubs Bridge Club since the fall of
1942, was held Friday evening In
the home of Mayor and Mrs. Chas.
Wilson.
Preceding game* of bridge In the
WUson home, a dinner was served
at the Coleman Hotel. An arrange-
ment of white snap dragons and
chrysanthemums centered the table,
flanked by red tapers In crystal
holders.

The South Coleman Baptist W.
M. U. met Monday afternoon at the
church. Due to bad weather and Ill-
ness of members only seven were In
attendance In the absence of the
president. Mrs. W R. Dale, the new
vice president, Mrs. W. L. McClel-
lan presided Mrs. A. C. Horton was
elected secretary to fill the unex-
ptred term of Mrs. Frank Lee who
has moved from Coleman. A report
on personal service was given by
each member. Plans were made on
future work for the needy. Mrs.
Jimmie Dolan led the closing
prayer
Present were Mmes. W L. Mc-
Clellan. Ernest Lykens. J. W. Jack-
son, Dolan. Byrd Wallis, Henry Hill,

worked on scrap books for the Sun
Beam Band of the First Baptist
church, at a meeting Wednesday
afternoon held In the home of Mrs.
E. V. Brown.
Mrs. Fred Garrett presided and
gave the devotional. At the con-
clusion of the working period the
hostess served refreshments to Mrs
I. L. Bradley, Mrs. Steve Brown,
Mrs Bert Parris, Mrs. Garrett, Mrs
Gene Olasson, Mrs. Weldon Lucas,
Mrs. Garrett Nalley and Mrs. Rich-

HAVE SILVER TEA OBERVANCE
OF FOUNDERS DAY
Plans wpre made for a sliver tea
to be given February 15th by the
three city P.T.A. units, at a meeting
of West Ward PTA Monday after-
noon. Mrs. Lewis Jobe presided and
named Mrs. John Dix, Mrs. E. E.
Hector and Mrs. Curtis Andls as a
nominating committee. The com-
mittee will present names of offi-
cers for election at the next meet-
ing.
It was reported that the organi-
zation has purchased a piano to be
used by the first, second and third
grades. There were 25 present for
the meeting.

BRIDGE CLUB HOSTESS
Mrs. E. L. White, Mrs. Alex Clarke
and Mrs. Jerry Harbour were. In-
cluded as guests Thursday when
Mrs. Roy Howell was hostess to
the Thursday Bridge Club.
A luncheon was served at the
Taylor Tea Room, followed by
games of bridge at the Howell
home. Two tables were arranged for
games. Mrs. Perry Stobaugh won
the high score award for club
member with high guest going to
Mrs. White.
