BAD HEALTH AND ADVICE
'OF PHYSICIANS PROMPT
MOVE
Upon positive orders of his phy-
sician, Supt. Charles H. Hufford,
superintendent of Coleman schools
for 23 years, has resigned his posi-
tion. according to an announcement
by T. J. Allen, president
school board,
With the resigwfftlorf, Supt. Huf-
;crd ends 51 years of teaching ser-
vice that caused him to be recog-
nized far and wide as one of the
best school men in the state. Mr
Hufford, in ill health for several
weeks, had recently been elected to
head the local school system for his
24th term.
School ooard members, who re-
ceived his resignation with reluct-
•ance. will meet Friday night to
consider the resignation. Under the
circumstances, it is thought that it
will be accepted.
Supt. HUfford's resignation was
! tendered to the school board Tues-
day, and if accepted, will become
effective at the end of this school
term. It Is thought that the board
may also discuss several candidates
to succeed Supt. Hufford. Already
several applications for the po-
sition have been received.
Mr. Hufford was one of th', siX'
| men who met and organized the
Mid-Texas Teachers Association In
1907. He has served as president of
this body twice. The organization
was the pioneer regional organiza-
tion In Texas.
Mr. Hufford has a life mem- -
bershlp in the State Teachers As-
sociation, and Is a member of the
National Teachers Association. He
Is now a member of the regional
association’s house of delegates.
Mr. Allen, head of the school
board, praises the work of Mr.
Hufford, and made the following
statement: "Mr. Hufford has done
a wonderful job with the city
schools, and his presence will be
missed One of his outstanding fea-
tures was the fact that he was
completely modern in thought and
work, and the local schools have
been far advanced and Just a little
ahead of most schools. For exam-
ple, the extra curricula work that
was Introduced here by Mr. Huf-
ford a number of year* ago was
something new then, but now all
the . best schools and colleges have

Brownwood for 10 years before
coming here. He received his bach-
elor's degree* at Howard Payne, and
his master's degree from the Uni-
versity of Colorado. He had "studied

Tour Is Now
Being Arranged
Plans are now being completed
for the annual Coleman county
feeder-breeder tour that 'sill be I
held the latter part of this month,
announces County Agent. D. D. j
Steele. A similar tour was held in '
this county In December.
The tour is sponsored by the i
Feeder-Breeder Association, Ford
Barnes of Santa Anna Is head of
the group. About 50 men are In the
association. Lots of Interest Is be-
ing manifested in this event, as
feeder-breeders are very numerous
in this county. Various lots are vis-
ited, and the feeding plan of each
man is explained.
It Is believed that a representa-
tive from the extension service wii 4'
be present. ■ Santa Atyna fed the
group last year, and probably the
men will be fed here at the city
park with a barbecue dinner this
year.
