Your electric service
is your Biggest Bargain Today
Electricity give* you ''more for your money” than any commodity you
oan buy today. Since 1936 the coat of living has increased 108%, yet your
average unit coat of TP&L residential electricity has gone down 43%.
TP4L, a business-managed, tax-paying electric utility, has been able to
keep the unit price of your electricity low through efficient operation and
through your increased use of service. The average home in the Company’s
service area now usee four times more electricity than in 1936, yet the cost of
this electric service represents less than two per cent of the average family
budget.
At the same time, the Company has been able to expand and improve
your service and keep ahead of your needs for electricity. This expansion
through the years has been carried on entirely with private funds, providing
an example of why it is unnecessary to spend your tax money for electric
power development by government-sponsored agencies which are financed
or subsidized with your tax dollar.

How We Manage The Telephone Business
With the beginning of a new year, many folks take stock
of their old resolutions and make any changes that are needed.
Here at the telephone company there’s one resolution that
never changes, no matter how many times we review it. It is
to manage the business in the best interest of the public,
employees and shareowners.
The telephone company exists for one purpose: to furnish
you the best possible telephone service at reasonable cost—a
cost consistent with financial safety and fair treatment of
employees.
Service Has Been Improved
Good service, of course, is our first objective. But since
the only good service is one that continually improves, a plan-
ned program of service improvements is called for.
For example here in Jacksboro work was begun on “air
conditioning” cables. This is a project to place all the cables
under air pressure which will enable us to locate and eliminate
cases of trouble before your telephone can go out of order. The
construction of new residences in Jacksboro required the plac-
ing of new cables. Many more of our customers required in-
dividual lines and existing cables were reinforced to meet this
demand.
A Big Job
Improvement of telephone service is a big job, but prob-
ably the biggest of all is expanding the telephone network.
Just look at the growth here in Jacksboro: 2089 phones today,
compared with 806 in 1950, and one out of 6 residential cus-
tomers has at least one extension phone.
Good service also takes willing owners, folks who’ve in-
vested savings in the business and depended on management
to run it in a sound, profitable manner. If their money can’t
earn a reasonable profit in the telephone business, who can
expect them to continue investing it with us?
With good earnings, we can plan ahead with confidence,
build for the future, striving always to give you the best tele-
phone service we know how.
