What About the Watergate Scandal?
The result of the seeming-
ly White House connection
with the Watergate scandal
have arroused many public
opinions. Many are wonder-
ing what our nations outcome
will be as the Image of
President Richard Nixon cor-
rodes. “What do you think
about the Watergate scan-
dal?”
Jamye McCann replied, "1
believe the President is in-
volved. It seems that he is
always trying to hide things
or get out of something. 1 am
ready to get down to the bottom
of this mess and see who
really is involved, and get
everything straightened out.
It doesn't seem to me, that it
should be too hard to find out
the truth in this case.
"I am glad that Watergate
is out in the open, but 1
don’t believe that it is actually
as big as it is being made to
be. The problem )ust might
be that Viet Nam is over with,
and now we need something
else to discuss and worry
about.”
Lou Ann Phillips said, “A
lot of people are getting
tired of reading about Water-
gate every morning, but i
think that It is just now get-
ting interesting. Politics has
always been a dirty busi-
ness and I’m glad they are
now getting some of this out
in the open.
‘T believe Nixon had to
have known about this. He
might not have known when it
was taking place, but after-
wards 1 think he helped cover

it up, because naturally be
wouldn’t want the public to
know about it. Then there
is the fact that he didn’t do
will eventually tell all, and
we can get this scandal set-
tled.”
Bobby Peterson answered,

"A lot, though, has still
been left unsaid. You know,'
Martha Mitchell was quoted
as saying "if I told every-
thing I knew. I’d be assasl-

ticians are just people, and
there are good and bed in
everything.
"Hopefully, President Ni-
xon wasn’t involved. I am
waiting to see what the final
nated.” So, maybe someooe outcome wiU be.”

I would feel most neglect-
ful and unthougbtful if I did not
devote this week’s columnto
my mother and other mothers.
Perhaps we cannot begin to
do justice with an arrange-
ment of words concerning the
pricelessness of a mother...
for her love, services, devo-
tion, sacrifices and contribu-
tions cannot be measured. A
truly and totally dedicated
mother to the task that is hers,
I feel, has more Influence for
good upon the lives of people
and upon the destiny of
world conditions than anyone
can ever really comprehend.
Many times we have heard
the quotation of the great
statesman who said, "the
hand that rocks the cradle
rules the world,” as well as
Abraham Lincoln’s well-
known words, "all I amor
ever hope to be, I owe to
my .mother.”
Now, we hear a lot about
woman's lib and the desire
of women everywhere to
gain identity--and most of
us will admit we want equality
and opportunity, and be able
to feel we have had a chance
to fulfil personal ambitions
through talents, outlets and
employment.
But, I hope all mothers will
be proud to be identified as
mothers, first of all, for this
is our foremost responsibi-
lity. We would be dishonest if
we said it is easy being a
mother. It’s a 24 hour a day
job, especially while our chil-
dren arc young and at home—
and of course we never forget
them when they’re away
either. #
Yes, we mothers make a
lot of mistakes. We don’t
mean to--we’re just human
like other folks. But we prob-
ably have to exercise more
love, patience and endurance
in our realm as a mother, than
in just about any other aspect
of our lives. And most of us
are the first to forgive our
children for any wrong or
disappointing act they might
commit--that’s because they
are ours and our love is deep
enough to penetrate any
barriers--and you know, in so
doing, we are able to be more

about the first ones to com- |

to be with her on Mother’s
Day, along with other family

the words to adequately thank
XdiVr Sl”“’er' 1'gTBTOWNBAPfiST
, And 1 am grateful to be
a mother of three myself,
and I’m thankful for God-
given strength and direction
with which to be sustained
in this role thus far ... and
although mine are grown,
I want to be able to be a
better mother in the future
that I might have wisdom
with which to provide en-
couragement during trying
times for them. Often I
have said I would never
have known how much my
mother cared for me if I
had not become a mother
myself. My children are
precious to me and they en-
rich my life more than I
can explain.
A quote I read some-
where: "Mother’s Day—
7 a.m. until 12 midnight.”
I rather agree to this as out-
of-bed hours now days, but
contend 24 hours a day is
more like it. The old say-
ing, "man works from sun
to sun, but woman’s work is
never done,’’ pretty well
speaks for mothers.
But, would we have it any
other way? I think not. So,
let us, as mothers, renew
the joy and privilege of our
role in iife—and be grateful
for each day of motherhood.
