A fired-up and deter-
mined eighth grade Kitten
team took to the muddy
home field Tuesday night
and defeated the Whites-
boro Bearcats 28-6. This
was the last outing of the
eighth grade Kittens in
Junior High football.
The Kittens lost no time
in showing the Bearcats
that they were determined
to finish the season with a
victory as they scored on
their first three possessions
of the football. On the first
scoring drive, Quirino
Salazar took the ball on his
own 48 yard line and
moved to the Whitesboro
eight yard line. Mike
Forbus moved the ball to
the four and on the next
play bulled his way over for
the score. The two points
try was short but the
Kittens took an early lead of
6-0 over the Bearcats.
Whitesboro did not con-
trol the ball long before they
turned it back to Kittens at
the Bearcat 40 yard line.
Backs Quirino Salazar
and Mike Forbus moved
easily downfield behind
good blocking and Forbus
took the ball in for the score
on an eight yard run.
Quarterback Scot Geer
scored on the two point
conversion play. The
Kittens moved ahead 144).
On their third possession
The Kittens missed a
scoring opportunity shortly
before halftime after Brian
Isbell intercepted a Bearcat
pass at the 37 and returned
it to the Whitesboro 19 yard
line. A fumble on a very wet
field caused the Kittens to
lose out at another touch-
down before halftime.
The second half was
primarily a defensive battle
until later in the fourth
quarter when Jacksboro
scored their final touch-
down of the night. Kitten
back Dempsey Ross scored
on a 30 yard run for the
Kittens with 1:30 left in the
ballgame. The try for the
two points was short and
the Kittens score remains
28-0.
Whitesboro battled back
and finally with only one
second showing on the
clock, scored their lone
touchdown of the night.
Kitten Mitchell Isbell
covered the fumble on the
Bearcat two point conver-
sion play to keep the score
at 28-6.
The 8th Grade Kitten
record for the year is 5-2-2.
The Kittens lost two games
by a total of four points.
Offensive scoring by the
Kittens totaled 192 points
while the Kitten defense
gave up only 74 points for
the season. Coaches Larry
Johnson and Randy Smith
are to be commended for
their fine job with these
boys.
