Coleman Christmas 1984 is to
begin with Santa Claus arriving for
tjie parade on Commercial Street,
Saturday, December 1 at 3 p.m.
Transportation for our "distin-
guished visitor" has been arranged
by the Chamber of Commerce with
the city Fire Department. Santa is
promised “their best vehicle" and it
seems quite appropriate that he
who kindles fires in the hearts of
young and old is carried about by
those who spend their days putting
out mis kindled fires.
How Santa is transported to
Coleman is shrouded in secrecy by
local officialdom; but once here,
Santa will be the man available for
all. There is an unsolved problem,
thought At press time Santa has a
place to land and has ground
transportation for the day, but has
no place to “live” while here. The
“house” from which he has previous
ly greeted children has no location
yet. Perhaps this is a way of calling
to remembrance how Santa Claus
ing began, the infant of Bethlehem
having no place to lay his head. But
now, unlike then, officialdom is
working on arranging a ^fitting
place.
Santa Claus is not the parade,
though; nor is the parade Santa
Claus. There is more, much more for
us in downtown Coleman on Decern
ber 1. Come to Commercial Avenue
and see. *
The parade route will be from the
Rhone Building south on Commer
cial and u-turn at Rudolph's to go
north to Wayne's behind the Court
House.
There are to be floats. MORE
FLOAT ENTRIES ARE NEEDED.
Will your business, your church,
your school, or class, enter a float?
It is not too late! There will be
prizes - 5 for best entries ($100, $75,
$60, $50, $25). The theme this year
is “Fairytale Christmas", so your
imaginations are already filled with
ideas, just put your hands to work
and pick up some prize money.
There will also be floats upon
which the 26 couples entered in the
Little Mr. and Miss Pageant are to
ride. Entries for this contest are
now closed so that pictures of ?I1
entries may be printed in the Daner.
And the 25 young women, 6th, 7th
and 8th graders, in the Junior Miss
Pageant will each be in the parade
riding in a decorated car. Entries for
this are closed, also, and for the
same reason as for the other
pageant. Now it seems to this
reporter that this Coleman Christ-
mas Parade is bound to be "a
winner."
Yet there is even more. You
creative young people get busy and
decorate your bicycles to ride in the
parade : for prizes, too; $10, $8. $6,
$4, $2. This contest has NOT been
previously announced this year, so
young readers and parents of young
readers are learning about it for the
first time! Nobody has a headstart,
get ready, get set, go.
Saturday evening, December 1, at
7:30 in the high school auditorium
the two pageants will be presented.
Santa is to be there greeting one
and all, and hopefully NOT still
looking for the house from which he
will greet children during the time
of his visit in Coleman. Admission to
the pageants: Adults, $2.00; Stu-
dents, $1.00. There is a separate
story about the pageants in this
issue.
During the day December 1 the
outdoor music system will be turned
on and two other community events
are scheduled.
All day, from (1:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
