JACKSBORO, JACK COUNTY, TEXAS, THURSDAY, MAY 30, 1907
The Lone Star Cultivator
Made by Southern Rock Island Plow Co.
Standard in Quality, Perfect in Adjustment.
The Lone Star is a cultivator made for the South and designed for the soil conditions
there. It is exceedingly strong and can be adjusted to suit the operator. The frame is
campact, rigid and so strong that it connot be sprung or twisted in actual service, yet any
necessary adjustment is quickly made. The seat is hinged and can be raised or lowered
without any tools or can be folded forward on the frame out of the way when the cultiva-
tor is used as a walker. Perfect balance can be maintained, relieving the horses of all neck
weight, regardless of the weight of the operator, by means of the balancing lever which is
within easy reach from the seat. It is “up-to-now.” We have 17 styles of Cultivators.
We have 17 different styles Riding, Walking, Disc, Sled, four and six
plows. Come and look through our stock if you wish to see the up-to-
date and best styles made. <£ & & &
We carry the largest and most complete line of Implements, Wagons,
and Vehicles in the county. It will be money in your pocket to see us
before you buy. *£ <£ <£

The Value of Cowpeai.
Wichita, Falls, Tex., 22, 1907.
Mr. Tom M. Marks,
Dear Sir:—I wish to call your
attention to the value of cowpeas
as a crop to be planted in growing
corn.
The cash value and the feed
value of the peas grown in the corn
is often greater than that of the
corn itself. Especially is this like-
ly to be the case in fields where the
stand of corn is poor or irregular.
They do not injure the corn in
any way. The cowpeas add to the j
fertility of the soil and greatly
benefits the following crop. The
soil is benefited almost as much
when the vines are fed off, or made
into hay, as when plowed under.
The peas usually sell on the
market at from $1.00 10 $3.00 per
bushel.
There is usually a good crop
ready to pick before cotton opens
and may be picked after cotton is
laid by and before cotton picking
begins.
The vines and peas left in the
field are valuable feed for all kinds
of stock.
Lands are being worn out by
continous cropping and washing
rains. Cowpeas will renew their
fertility. Those who are not mak-
ing cowpeas one of the regular
farm crops should try a patch of
them and demonstrate that they
will increase soil fertility and bank
accounts at the same time.
Very truly yours,
W. D. Bentley,
Special Agent.
