COLEMAN DEMOCRAT-VOICE
Report From
317 Yale Street
By Bill Laws
This report is to explain to my
readers why I am so spry and
youthful. Seemingly my life has
been recycled. For a few years I was
in my second childhood. (Well, that
is what I heard them say anyway).
But I seem to have outgrown that.
Now I suppose I am in my secbnd
adolescence. However, I don’t have
the pimples on my face yet. I have
become very shy and bashful and
run from girls. But I have that
familiar longing for a hug and a kiss.
In this last phase of life (which is
hope she or anybody else knows it.
I have the same old inferiority
complex I had so long ago. I seem to
be under the impression thtft' I
should apologize for being here.
- But there is something wrong
with the picture, for there are no
haystacks to play on and turn flips
off of. I don’t care for coon hunting
(which I did in that other world). I
will not hunt and kill rabbits, birds
or any of God’s creations. Well,
maybe rattlesnakes and stinging
scorpions- Yes, there is something

probably imaginary). I seem to be
about 13 and wish someone would
buy me a donkey to ride. I have an
urge to go behind the barn and
smoke cigarettes. Yes sir, cigarettes
made of cedar bark or cotton leaves.
I seem to want to get a pole and go
fishing (which I have not done in
three score years). I know I could
climb high in a tall tree and carve
the name of my little brown-eyed
sweety on the bark of the tree with
my Barlow knife. She is mine but I
don’t like milk gravy, beans, cheese
or turnip greens. And where cpuld
you find an organ which I used to
play on. And I miss the old Ingersol
dollar watch which I carried in my
(watch) pocket. Why do I not get
compliments on my music like I did
in my first adolescence? I know it is
much better than it was then.

The above may, of course, be just
fantastic wishful thinking, but the
fact remains that I have almost
[LAST WEEK’S NEWS)
Those attending the Junior Youth
Group meeting Sunday afternoon
with Vern and Rhonda Slate were
Rebecca Tongate, Mayce Nanny,
recovered from a bad heart attack
and a serious hip joint ailment.
Grandma Moses did all right when
she was about my age so why should
I let the old rocking chair get me?
Why should I sit and look at four
walls and try to be a nice old gentle-
man? A man can dream can’t he?
Here lately I have been making a
few recordings of my singing and
playing. Some say I sound like Burl
Ives, but be that as it may, I have
sold three cassettes and given away
some to my friends. So I will end
this wacky article and see you next
time.
Angie Fenton, Charlise Long. Dur-
