‘Y’Know, When I came back from Vietnam in '69, the future
looked pretty rosy. I rented some land and bought a piece
on contract from Dad. and things went pretty well for a few
years. And, of course, 73 was tremendous—I paid Dad off
and bought a new tractor and a new car all in one year. Paid
cash! ... And about that time I remember 'em telling us -
to get big or get out. .. plant fence row to fence row and
they'd sell everything we could grow. Sure. I went for it—I
wanted to build something up for my family . hmm\ .
And they did export a lot more for awhile, but I didn't sbem
to make much off it. ... We just can't seem to get a price-
prices today don't come close to covering my costs And I
can’t even pay the interest on my notes! It's bad. . . My boy
wants to farm, but I don't see any way Shoot, / can only
hang on a couple more years max. the way things are going
Don’t know what I'd do. . . The
way I figure it, this '85 Farm
Bill’s my only hope. . .”
