CHOOSING IN-HOME
CARE FOR CHILDREN
Choosing an income caregiver for
young children is a serious matter
for parents. Of the children in
childcare, about 86-90 percent are
cared for in their own homes or in
small groups in a caregiver’s home,
says Texas A&M University Agri-
cultural Extension Service home
economist Diane T. Welch. The
caregivers are often friends, rela-
tives or neighbors, she adds. When
the in-home caregiver is a friend or
relative, parents often feel awkward
about asking for an interview, notes
Welch. However, it’s just as import-
ant to spend time talking with a
friend or relative, she says, since
you may find your views on child
care are not compatible. “Don’t take
anything for granted and tell the
person what you expect of the child
and what you would like a caregiver
to do for and with the child”, she
says.
SPEEDY SAYS GOODBYE to Cisco tackier Danny
Kearney (45) as he sets sail on a 43 yard TD run
after hauling in a McCord Wilson pass midway
through the third period. Holloway's six-pointer
gave the Cats a 7-6 lead at the time and
sparked an emotional Bluecat fourth period in
which the locals outscored the visiting Loboes,
20-0. The Cats went on to win, 27-6. The 145
pound junior SE caught nine passes for 137
yards to highlight Randy Smith's Cats first win
of the season. Albert Dela Rosa (20) trails the
play at right. (Photo courtesy of Ralph Terry
