State Competition
More than 400 F.F.A.
members and advisors from
throughout Texas com-
peted in the 45th Annual
State Leadership Contest
on Saturday, December 4,
1976. This activity was held
on the campus of Sam
Houston State University in
Huntsville, Texas.
Being eligible to partici-
pate in the State Leader-
ship Contest indicates that
the F.F.A. members have
had a successful record in
leadership development.
These contestants made up
sixty teams coming from
the ten areas of Texas.
These teams had first to
win in their district and
then in the area in order
to participate in the State
Contest.
The State Leadership
Contest in one of the high-
lights of the year for F.F.A.
members. Development of
leadership is one of the
primary purposes of the
F.F.A. Organization. The
Agriculture Department at
Sam Houston State Univer-
sity has contributed to the
F.F.A. leadership program
for a number of years by
sponsoring these State
Finals.

Fort Richardson Makes
Reconstruction Plans
Friday morning, Dec-
ember 10, in City Council
Chambers, the City Com-
mission will hold public
hearings to get citizens'
ideas for a Community
Block Action Grant that
will aid the city in its ef-
forts to improve city ser-
vices to the community.
The time will be from
10:00 until 12:00 noon.
The minimum grant al-
lowed is $50,000 and the
maximum is $250,000. At
this time, the city is for-
ulating what is called a
pre-application. If this
should be approved, then
a full application will be
worked up. borne of the
things this money may be
used for arc streets, wa-
ter, sewage, community
centers, fire trucks and
fire halls.
The second public meet-
ing will be held Tuesday,
December 14 at 6:30 in
the Council Chambers at
City Hall.
According to Russell
Downing, of Texas Parks
and Wildlife, Fort Richard-
son will soon be undergoing
reconstruction work, with
bids as high as $160,000.
Authorization came about
as the result of lack of
protest in a public hearing
concerning this matter.
Plans to the reconstruc-
tion include restoration of
an enlisted picket barracks
and an officers picket
building, the interior to be
used for exhibits. The
department has made plans
to engage in additional
work in the fort hospital.
Also, plans have been
made to complete recon-
struction of all buildings.

Tigerettes Are Champs
In Byers Tournament
DRAWING AWARDS PRIZES-The drawing, sponsored by participating merchants,
was held Saturday afternoon on the courthouse lawn. Pictured above is Santa Clause,
as he drew winning numbers for W.D. Rhoades, who won a turkey, and Willie Mae
Dixon, who won a $50.00 gift certificate from the Retail Merchants. A similar drawing
will be held each Saturday at 3:00 on the Courthouse square. Also, a reminder that
Santa Claus will be in town December II and 18th all afternoon.

The Jacksboro varsity
girls supplied fans an
exciting game against
Newcastle, in the finals of
the Byers Tournament
last Saturday night. It
was not until the final
buzzer sounded that a
winner could be declared
and the score read Jacks-
boro 44, Newcastle 42,
making the Tigerettes the
first place team in the
tournament.
The Tigerettes beat
Burkburnett 72-28 in the
first game on Thursday
with Kathy Cole netting 26
points. In the second round
of play, Jacksboro defeated
Northside by a score of
91-56 lead by Cathy Tilgh-
man with 33 points and
Kathy Cole with 30 points.
In the final game, the
Tigerettes appeared
nervous in the first half of
play as they made some
critical mistakes which kept
them behind on the score-
board. Finally by the end
of the third quarter, thev
gained their composure and
Robbery Occurs
At Cotten Drug
A robbery was reported
in Cotten Drug Monday
morning. December 6.
According to Cliff Cotten,
owner, it appears that the
robbery occured Sunday
night, December 5.
Cotten said that he
arrived at work, only to
find the back door jammed,
drugs missing and several
hundreds of dollars taken.
As of this press release, no
suspects have been found.

Hall of the United Methodist Church. Meat will be

Party December 9 in the home of Mrs. C.E. Stone. All
members participating in the program bring gifts for
ladies, as well as one to be exchanged.
The XYZ Club will meet first Tuesday. December 7
1976 at the United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

ORDAINS PASTOR
Brother Neil G. Thomp-
son was ordained to the
Gospel Ministry at the
Jermyn Baptist Church,
Dec. 5, I976. The Ordain-
ing Council consisted of
pastors and deacons from
the various churches in the
county, with the Area
Missionary, Bro. Vance
Zinn acting as moderator.
Spurgeon Cooper presen-
ted the candidate for
ordination. The interroga-
tion was by Bro. Gryson,
Jacksboro First. The
Charge to the candidate
was given by Bro. David
Barclay, Live Oak. Congre-
gational singing was led by
Bro. Will Aston, Antelope.
Special music was by Bro.
Zmn. The Ordination
prayer was voiced by Bro.
Jerry Smith, Southwest,
Jacksboro.
The 8th grade girls de-
feated Bow'ie by a score
of 33-20, Thursday night.
Playing a good offen-
sive game were Karen
Spiller. Kathy Owen, Sher-
ita Kirk, Livie Ogle and
Sheila Burlesons.
Kathy had I5 points,

meeting of Perrin FHA.
members and officers of
the chapter elected a girl
of the quarter. To be
nominated and elected,
one has to be involved in
the different activities dur-
ing the quarter.
Kim Lyon was elected
girl for the first quarter
of^this school year. As a
freshman, Kim has been
very active in FHA. Dur-
ing the summer she was
involved in the making and
selling of flower pots. She
participated in f freshman
Fun Day, was high candle
salesman, worked during
the Homecoming Barbe-
que, went on the FHA and
FFA havride, and helped
pack Christmas presents
which were sent to the
Denton State School.
After the closing prayer
refreshments were served
in the fellowship hall.
Bro. Thompson became
pastor at Jermyn on Sept.
26, I976. He is a student at
Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary,
Ft. Worth. He served in
the U.S. Air Force for 22
years, retiring in 1974.
Bro. Thompson and his
wife, Irene are natives of
New York. They have two
daughters, Katrina, who is
a student at T.C.J.C. in
Ft. Worth, and Jennifer
who is an eighth grader.
