the Clubroom of the Coleman

(R.E.4.) at 200 West Live Oak
Street. Almost 100 registered
for the day's activities, in spite
of illnesses, summers’ intense
heat and the high cost of travel.
Earl Cullins and Neal Smith

and Ivy Dobbins and Dorothy
Farris had charge of registra-
tion and name tag#. Essie
Davenport, Annie Will Farris

CORRECTION
In the story about the group
named as outstanding young
men of America, an error was
made in listing the parents of
Larry Adian. The story should
have read that Adian is the son
of Mrs. Lena Adian and R. S.
Adian, both of Coleman.

was served after the invoction
was given by Wayland Arm-
strong.
Singing was enjoyed after
lupch, and a devotion and
prayer were given by Freddie
Cullins. During a brief business
session plans were made for the
Homecoming next year to be
held on Saturday, July 4,1981,
and in the same building. All
present officers were re-elected
to serve another year. They
are: President, Earl Cullins;
Vice-Presidents, Neal and Viola
Smith; Secretary, Ivy Dobbins;
Treasurer, Annie Will Farris;
and Publicity Chairman, Eirys
Larance.
The highlight of the day was
the time of visitation, with its
buzz of many conversations and
bursts of laughter, intersper-
sed by the clicking of cameras.
Longtime friends, teachers and
pupils were joyful to meet
again.
Three former teachers of
Loss Creek School were pre-
sent to enjoy the reunion with
many former pupils and talk of
other days. Mrs. Mattie Van-
derford Carlock of Ft. Worth
who taught the most years and
the most pupils was happy to
see many former primary
pupils. She also held the dis-
tinction of being the oldest
person present. Mrs. Lois
Sparkman Conner of Menard, a
former intermediate grade
teacher, and organizer and
director of the Choral Club, was
enjoying all the greetings and
remembrances. Mrs. Eirys
Sparkman Larance, who taught
several years at Loss Creek
was rejoicing to see former
pupils in primary or interme-
diate grades, or high school
English or Homemaking class-
es. While teaching at Loss
Creek she planned and deve-
loped a homemaking depart-
ment for the school and taught
the classes during the Depres-
sion years. This was the first
rural school in the county to
maintain a homemaking de-
partment. Many girls who had
dropped out of school, returned
for these classes and thus were
encouraged to complete their
high school studies, which they
did. Mrs. Larance has attend-
ed and assisted with each of the
five annual homecomings.
Mrs. Sylvia Ruth Byrd Box of
Arlington, a retired teacher of
26 years, and a native of Loss
Creek, was on hand to enjoy the
day. She is the daughter of
Prof, and Mrs. John Byrd, who
were teachers in the school.
She was born in the teacherage,
and later was a pupil of her
mother. She recalled what hap-
pened when her teacher-
mother saw her pass a note to
another pupil-it.was a “painful"
experience. We all appreciate
her continued interest in the
community.
Gratitude has been express-
ed to the homecoming officers,
and to all others who helped in
varioius ways to make the day a
great success and a memorable
occasion. We also extend our
appreciation to the Coleman Co.
Electric Cooperative for the use
of the comfortable and conven-
ient clubroom.
