VETERANS
ADMINISTRATION
Editor’s Note: Veterans and
their dependents are asking
thousands of questions con-
cerning the benefits their
Government provides for them
through the Veterans Admin-
istration. Below are some
representative queries. Addi-
tional information may be ob-
tained at any VA office.
Question—I have a 10 per
cent rating and am in a VA
hospital because of a service-
connected disability. Will I
receive a permanent in-
crease in my compensation?
Answer—Only If there Is a
permanent increase in the de-
gree of your service-con-
nected disability. However, if
you are hospitalized more than
21 days, a temporary 100 per
cent rating will be assigned for
the whole period of your hos-
pitalization.
Question—Is it true that
World War II veterans may
apply for a GI loan without
regard to the length of time
they have been out of service?
Answer—Yes, a recent law
restored unused expired loan
guaranty entitlement to all
veterans who were previously
e'lgible. There is no longer a
time limit on applying for a
GI loan.
Question—My 59-year-old
father is a veteran of World
War II, and he is receiving a
pension because he is unable
to work. Can he be treated
in a VA hospital even though
his condition is not related to
his military service?
Answer-Yes, if a VA ex-
amination confirms that he
needs hospitalization and a
bed is available. Because
he receives a pension, it
will not be necessary for him
to sign a statement of inabil-
Ity to pay.

By LOWERY JOHNSON
Folks, I’ll tell you:
You know I was monkeying
with an old radio today, try-
ing to make it talk, and It kind
of reminded me of my Grand-
pa, the time he lost his voice.
His voice left him one time
and it looked like he never
would get It back—wouldn't
have, I reckon, if he hadn’t
started to lick an envelope and
split his tongue and he said
dam it, afore he could choke it
off.
MY VERSE TODAY
Old Grandpa was a tooter
Or so the neighbors thought;
They accused him of every-
thing
But he was never caught.
Started chewing tobacco
At the tender age of ten,
And had his jaws re-treaded
When they started wearing
thin.
At a hundred forty-five
He fell down in a well,
And would be with us today
If he wasn’t safe in -
You know, I can’t seem to
find a word that will rhyme
with well, so you can finish
it up to suit yourselves.
