Mitchell Reports Lower Earnings for Third Quarter
Mitchell Energy ft Develop-
ment Corp. today reported
earnings of $12,514,000, or 26
cents per share, for the third
quarter of its current fiscal
year. In the corresponding
year-earlier period, the
company earned $16,225,000,
or 34 cents per share.
Revenues for the quarter,
which ended Oct. 31,
amounted to $207,322,000,
down from $224,780,000 in the
prior-year period. •
Chairman and President
George P. Mitchell attributed
the lower earnings to
continued softness in most ol
the company’s energy and
real estate markets. He noted,
however, that the Trans-
mission and Processing
Division’s operations have
benefited during the last
several weeks from advances
in the market prices of ethane,
propane and other natural
gas liquids.
Mitchell also noted that
consecutive quarterly
earnings improvements were
attained in the first three
periods of the current fiscal
year and said the strong
market for natural gas liquids
is enhancing prospects for
extending the trend through
the final quarter.
In the first nine months, I
company earned $34,967,(
or 73 cents per share,
revenues of $618,475,(
That compared wl
$50,581,000. or $1.06 per
share, earned on revenues of
$698,199,000 in the same
period a year ago.
