More salary,
more taxes
Dear Editor:
How many people realize
that they will be paying the
IRS taxes on profits that
don't exist?
A friend bought a building
20 years ago for $35,000 and
sold it last year for $90,000
(not uncommon). The IRS
says he’s made $55,000.
However, when he checked,
he couldn’t build the same
building for $90,000. so he
hasn’t made any money at
all! This doesn’t stop him
from being ripped off by the
government IRS. See how
the politicians don’t have to
pass any new laws to raise
plunder the people and
taxes? The same is true of a
worker who gets a salary
increase. He has more taxes,
but less buying power and a
higher tax bracket.
Then to add insult, his tax
money is used for things he's
strictly against.
The majority of the people
don’t want forced school
busing, foreign aid to enemy
and foreign countries, wel-
fare muder through abor-
tion, schools wherd our
children can't pray and
Christianity is mocked.
The majority didn’t want
the Panama Canal given to a
communist dictator..
America is going down
fast. I hope that the people
who voted the liberals
(mostly Democrat) in are
proud of their vote.
Pay your taxes and grin,
but don’t forget the judges
and liberal politicians when
it happens. It’s nearer than
you think.!

Why is it ?
1. Why is it that the re-elected Bastrop School Board
majority and the losers in last April 5th's election do not
extend the olive branch of peace and friendship to each other
in the interests of building a better school system? Could the
losers’ talents be used in some way to help the district? And
would they cheerfuly co-operate?
2. Why is it that Bastrop County can't get a new first-class
motel and restaurant to take care of visitors to our federal
prison and the UT Science Park?
3. Why is it that new houses are still going up in Bastrop
County, especially in rural areas, despite searing interest
rates? It looks like there are still thrifty localities who have
saved enough money to build and do at least part of the work
themselves.
4. Why is it that there's no place in Bastrop County to eat
on the banks of the Colorado River, unless you take your
own lunch.
5. Why is it that we think every civil right granted to each
U.S. citizen should also be given to every other person in the
U.S., even those who are illegal residents and those who are
protesting our system at the same time they are guests at
our universities? What good is citizenship if a non-citizen
gets the same rights? And why should a foreign student who
disrupts a meeting be allowed to stay in this country one day
longer?
6. Why is it that we can’t leave junk food alone and our
hats, pants and shoes don’t fit any longer?
7. Why is it that we haven’t heard from you about your
own list of why is its?

she wrote her letter.
I myself was a member of
the Concerned Parent group
and never did our candidate
suggest doing away with the
dress code.
Never did he suggest
stopping supervision of our
children and nei ther did he
want the children to be able
to smoke (even across from
the school). Now, Bettye, put
up or shut up!!! Yes, we
remember how the election
came out and our candidate
got more votes than she
remembers. He got over 800
votes and she called that a
few.
The people of Bastrop
County didn’t tell us what
they wanted when they
voted in that election except
that they believed all the lies
like Bettye tells about our
candidate. There were so
many lies circulating about
the candidate at that time,
people were gullable enough
to believe them.
We never did want a
permissive school system,
just a humane one. We want
what is best for the citizens
of tomorrow and unfair
statements like the ones
make by Bettye Jones won’t
achieve this. This group of
people were good people and
people that only wanted to
work with the school system
and not be made to feel like
an outsider when inquiring
about the school system
functions.
These were not people
that wanted riots, dope and
confusion, like Bettye Jores
wants people to believe.
We wanted and still do
want children to grow up in a
healthy atmosphere with a
healthy respect for them-
selves and others and a good
education thrown in be-
tween. We also wanted to
raise children not to be as
ignorant as the Bettye
Jones’ of this world that
would believe propaganda
when fed it. I also would like
to say she timed her letter
just right to keep the school
system just as she loves it.
So Bettye, take it and run
with it...
