you would to. If elected I
will patrol Precinct 3 and be

Pastor queries
building's use
Dear Editor;
Will the All Purpose
Building erected by the La

at a cost of around $200,000
in Giddings end up bringing
heartaches to the association

That is my question as

Totally
unbelievable
In time Texas House Speaker Billy Clayton's story of how
he was just "keeping" a stack of money so as not to
embarrass another man may turn out to be true.
But on the surface it's totally unbelievable
The reason citizens are disgusted with politics and
politicians is the inescapable fact that almost every man who
goes into public office and stays awhile comes out much
richer This enrichment, whether by bribes or just taking
advantages of opportunities the non politicians seldom get,
goes on at the same time that the U.S. standard of living ,s
declining and many Americans are losing ground
The average taxpayer is getting poorer and the average
politician is getting richer.
The system stinks.
Texas will continue to have king size political scandals
until the Legislature is forced to adopt a tough code of
ethics.
That code would say a politician s complete sources of
income have to be stated every year, including all the money
in his bank accounts, whether they are just being held for
someone else or are really truly his. An office holder would
be prohibited flatly from receiving any money whatsoever
while in public office except as regular business income and
he would have to prove he earned it during his time away
from Austin.
Money raised for his political campaigns could be spent
only on his own campign and through a finance committee.
He wouldn’t be allowed to touch it or try to corrupt other
races with it.

Isn’t there something we can do in Bastrop to show our
friendship and appreciatibn to Canada, a courageous land we
can count on in time of great peril. Contrast what Canada
did for us in Iran to what the Mexican government has been
doing to us under its current and immediate past president.
How about bringing a yhoung man or woman from Canada
next August as our special guest at Homecoming? We could
find one from a town like ours, someone interested in
agriculture. It would be a fitting gesture.
