Freshman Wildcats seize back-to-back
Canadian’s ninth-grade hoops
team is off to a 3-0 start after their
winning debut against Sunray in
Week One, and dominating victo-
ries over both Panhandle and
Wellington in the last two weeks.
The Wildcats overpowered
Panhandle, answering each Pan-
ther point with three of their own
in the first half, and maintaining
that momentum for a 44-19 final.
With 13 game points, Anthony
Newcomb led strong
across-the-board scoring for the
Cats. Robert Reyes poured in 11,
Jacob Fletcher and Camden
Dorris 8 each, and Cody Helms 6.
This Monday, the Cats per-
formed for the hometown crowd,
burying the Wellington Sky-
rockets in a 43-17 victory. After a
slow 4-3 first quarter, the Cats
leapt ahead to a 25-9 halftime and
didn't look back. Reyes keyed the
offense with a game-high 19
points, assisted by Newcomb with
10, Fletcher and Bryan Bartlett
with 6 apiece, and Helms with 2.
“It was our best game so far of
playing team ball," coach Dan
Pendergrass said of this week's
game.
The Freshman Lady Cats
chalked up their first win against
Sunray in Week One. Canadian
outshot Sunray 32-16 in their de-
but game, led by Tandi Rankin
with 11 points and Ashley John-
son with 8. Jessica Shelton put up
4, Haley Rader 3, anil Kayla Ora
ham and Holly Conn 2 each.
"The girls had a fine defensive
effort which sparked them to a
win,” commented coach Jimmy
Chappell.

scheduled to play Clarendon
Monday in the last game be-
fore Christmas break. Girls
teams will hit the road to Clar-
endon. while the boys will play
at home. Games begin at 5 p.m.
The next games will lie against
Spearman on January 8.

The CMS eighth-grade
girls are undefeated in their
first three hard court outings
this year after blitzing Sunray
44-29 in Week One, posting a
32-25 win in Week Two against
Panhandle, and holding off
Wellington Monday night in a
28-27 squeaker.
Eighth-grader Kari Robin-
son opened the season scorch-
ing hot, leading her team’s win
over Sunray with a game-high
start-to-finish 20-points. Kali
Looney tipped in 10 while
Alyssa Godino helped with 6,
and Doadre Henderson and
Kelsey Hector Nall 2 each
Leading throughout, the Kit-
tens just got better, outscor-
ing Sunray 16-6 in the final
period.

Fletcher—whose wife,
Jennifer, wag making a special
5 lb. 11 oz. delivery at Baptist St
Anthony’s Hospital—the
eighth-grade girls delivered an-
other victory last Monday against
Panhandle. The girls expanded a
2-point first-quarter lead to
7-points in the third quarter, and
held off a Panther rally in the
fourth. Nall led the scoring with a
game-high 14. while Robinson
tossed in 10, and Looney. Godino,
Carolann Wilson and Carrie Cox
sent 2 each up.
This week’s win over
Wellington went down to the
wire. The Kittens held a 10-5 lead
as the first quarter ended, but
Wellington whittled away at that
margin, narrowing it to 2 at the
close of the third. Canadian hit
60** from the free-throw line
Godino fired in 10 (joints and Rob-
inson 8 to lead the team Looney,
Wilson, Cox, Nall and Megan
Schafer each put up 2.

eighth-grade team are Kamie

on the road at Sunray. They enter
Week Four of hoop season with a
2-1 record after losing a 21413
home court shootout against Pan
handle and I jouncing back Mun-
day with a 25-21 victory at
Wellington.
The Kittens controlled the
season opener from the starting
buzzer, rolling up a 21-2 halftime
lead after holding Sunray score-
points apiece.
The Kittens trailed 12-14 at
halftime against Panhandle, nar-
rowing that to a 1 -point margin in
the third, but couldn't find the net
in the final pencil, Panhandle's
shooters wanned up and outshot
Canadian 12-1 to take it away in
the fourth. The visitors increased
their advantage by hitting 64% at
the free-throw line. Rankin and
Culver combined for 15 points to
lead the team's offense in that
game.
Lagging 11-14 at halftime of
this week's game, the Kittens
kicked it up a notch, limiting
Wellington to only 7 second half
(joints while shooting a solid 14 to

Once again, Rankin with 10, ami
Culver with 9, led the sconng for
Canadian, with 2-points each
from Snyder, Tobi Helton and
Kenzie McPherson. The Kittens
improved from 9% from the bo-
nus line in their first game to 37%
this week.
