@AKtoUaH RECORD THURSDAY7DECEMBER2000
BusinessBriefs
Businesses in some Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, New
Mexico, Missouri and Texas counties—including Hemphill, Lipscomb,
Ochiltree and Wheeler counties—are eligible to apply for low interest
Economic Iqjury Disaster Loans from the U.S. Small Business Admin-
istration. These loans are available to help businesses meet normal op-
erating expenses that cannot be met due to the effects of a disaster.
Excessive heat and drought that began on July 1 caused many farmers
and ranchers to experience reduced incomes which may have had an
adverse economic effect on businesses depending upon these produc-
ers. The loan can help a business meet installments on long-term debt,
accounts payable and overhead expenses that would have been met had
the disaster not occurred. Farmers and ranchers are not eligible for
this loan program, but may be eligible for disaster assistance through
other Federal agencies. However nurseries that are victims of drought
disasters can apply. To obtain an application or receive additional infor-
mation, interested business owners may call the SBA toll-free at
1 -800-366-6303 or TDD 817-2674688 for the hearing impaired. The ap-
plication deadline is July 2 2001. #49

very low in relation to the incomes within the county. This money must
be used in conjunction with the home weatherization program of Pan-
handle Community Services. Persons who feel they qualify and would
like to inquire about this assistance should contact the local PCS office
at Perryton, (806) 435-2478. #48
