1. Install smoke detectors on every level of your home
and in every bedroom
2. Test smoke detectors every month
3. Change your battenes in your smoke detectors every 6 months?
with your clocks when daylights savings time ends and Degtns
4. Replace any smoke alarm that is 10 years old or older
5. Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children
6. Provide smokers with the appropnate ash trays,
never smoke in bed or when tired
7. Keep an eye on cooking.
8. Do not overload circuits or outlets, eliminate extension cords.
9. Inspect furnaces and heating appliances annually
10. Learn how to use a fire extinguisher and have one

DO’S:
Before you open a door, touch near the top with the back of your
hand and feel for heat. If the door is hot or you see smoke curling
under it, do not open the door If it is cool to the touch open the door
slowly. Chet* for smoke. If you see smoke, close the door and exit
elsewhere. Close windows before you leave, if you safely can,
and dose the door behind you. Crawi below the smoke - the coolest
and freshest air is toward the floor. Use the stairs, never take an elevator,
smoke rises and you could be trapped inside a stalled elevator
Go to a prearranged meeting place outside and call the fire department^
