Kid’s Fishing Derby
on again Saturday
The Canadian Bassmasters’ of kids fishing in the touma-
6th annual Kid’s Fishing
Derby at Lake Marvin, can-
celed last Saturday because of
the rain, has been re-scheduled
for Saturday, June 8.
Fishing will begin at 12
noon and continue until 4 p.m.
Prizes will be given for the top
three places in each age group,
and also for the largest and
smallest fish caught in the
tournament.
Age groups will be 0-to-5
years, 6 to 10, and 11 to 15
years. As an entry fee children
are invited to bring one can of
food to be given to Sharing Is
Caring, but no fee is required
ment.
Signing up for the tourna-
ment will begin at 11 a.m. Fish-
ing will be from the banks only,
and no floating devices will be
allowed. Fishing will be with
one rod only. Smaller children
must have a parent or adult
guardian to help, and parents
are asked to have as much fun
as the kids.

Little League winding down,
King Well Service still unbeaten
King Well service continues
to rule the roost in the
Canadian Little League
baseball loop with ten victories
and no losses to date as the
teams move into the seventh
week of an eight-week
schedule.
Mitch Ashley’s team
notched two more victories in
the past week, defeating First
State Bank last Thursday and
beating Canadian Pharmacy
10 to 2 Tuesday night. Score of
the Thursday game was not
reported to the newspaper, but
John Salem Ashley was the
winning pitcher in the Tuesday
night game, with Trevor Orr on
the mound for Canadian Phar-
macy, relieved by Chris Ford
and Craig Bass in the final in-
nings.
Bestway won its second vic-
tory of the season in the second
game Tuesday night, defeating
First National Bank 12 to 5.
Brett Hart was the winning
pitcher relieved by Eric Hall,
and Josh Coates the loser.
Monday night the Lions
Club defeated First State Bank
11 to 5, with Jesus Reyna the
winning pitcher and Brett
Smith the loser.
In a Friday night game
Maxus defeated Bestwav 17 to
5.
In the second game
Thursday night Canadian
Pharmacy defeated First Na-
tional Bank 12 to 4.
In the league standings,
after Tuesday’s games, King
Well was on top with a 10-0

Cubs Tuesday
Canadian’s Senior League
Baseball team lost an extra-in-
ning battle to the Wheeler
Cubs here Tuesday night by a
16-10 score.
The Canadian team rallied
to take the lead in the early
innings after trailing 4-2 after
an error-filled first frame, and
the Cubs rallied in the 7th in-
ning to tie the score at 9-9, then
had a big 7-run barrage in the
top of the 8th to move in front
16 to 9.
The Canadian team had
runners on base in the final
frame but could get only one
across the plate. The loss
dropped their season’s record
to 5-3.
Trent Ezzell pitched seven
and one-third innings and was
relieved in the 8th by Jyarid
Jaco. Ezzell had a chance to
salvage the win in the bottom
of the 7th when he hit a high
bouncer off the plate and
reached 3rd base on a succes-
sion of throwing errors by the
Cubs, but was stranded there.
The Canadian team will
play at Miami tomorrow night
(Friday) at 8 o’clock, and will be
back at home next Tuesday for
an 8 o’clock game with Claren-
don at Osborne Field, and at
home next Friday at 8 o’clock
for a game with the Wheeler
A’s.

Tonight (Thursday) starting
at 5 o’clock Maxus and First

At 6 o’clock the two teams will
play their second scheduled
game, and at 8 o’clock King
Well Service will play the Lions
Club.
Tomorrow night (Friday) at
6 o’clock First State Bank will
play Bestway.
Monday night, June 10, the
Lions will play Maxus at 6
o’clock (only game scheduled).
Tuesday night First National
plays King Well at 6 o’clock and
Bestwav plays First State at 8
o’clock.
In the Girls Softball League
Rotary will play Pay n’ Save at
6 o’clock and Canadian
Feedyard plays First National
at 8 o’clock on Friday night.
Scores of last week-end
games were not reported. Tues-
day night Rotary Club
defeated Canadian Feedyard
18 to 16, and Pay n’ Save
defeated First National 22 to
11. Standings at mid-week
were not available.
In the Senior Girls Softball
loop, Canadian defeated White
Deer 36-20 on Friday night,
and defeated Briscoe 44 to 7
Tuesday night in a game called
in the 4th inning. April Maupin
was the winning pitcher in
both games.

were among W’est Texas State
University undergraduates
named to the President’s and
Dean’s Honor rolls for the 1991
Spring semester.
Earning President’s List
recognition with grade point
averages of 3.850 or higher (out
of a possible 4,000) were Janie
Kessie, a Senior majoring in
Social Studies, and David
Drinnon, a Junior Accounting
m^jor.
On the Dean’s List with
GPAs of at least 3.250 were
Rick Donaldson, Sophomore
Chemistry mfyor, and Barbara
Hobdy, a Senior History mfyor.
