Mayor David Lock's term also ex-
pires this year.
Due to new legislation govern-
ing elections, the city filing will be-
gin and end two weeks earlier than
in the past, and the deadline for fil-
ing at City Hall is Wednesday .

In addition to the council, elec-
tions will also be held for three
places on the Bastrop School
Board, with the deadline for filing
being March 5 at the school's cen-
tral office.

The State Department of Highways and Public Transpor
tation is conducting a study for improvements to the un-
divided portion of U.S. Highway 290 between Manor and
Elgin. The firm of Cook Consultants, Inc., has been retained
to perform this study. Field surveys for planning and design
