PHILLIP MOSELEY IS GUEST
SPEAKER FOR CHAMBER
OF COMMERCE
Phillip Moseley, editor of the
South Texan Magazine, was
guest speaker at the regular
meeting of the Bandera Chamber
of Commerce Monday evening,
when newly elected officers were
present.
Bud Merka, newly elected pres-
ident, presided and called the
meeting to order.
Mr. Moseley spoke at length,
giving excellent information and
advice on a Community Develop-
. ment Program, at which time he
stressed the importance of de-
veloping the tourist business,
bringing in new business, the set-
ting up of a committee to handle
a preliminary survey to be fol-
lowed by a lengthy survey of the
county. The survey would be for
the purpose of ascertaining the
opinion of all types of people
in the county. He also spoke on
making a town a better place in
which to live and rear a family;
new jobs, new industry by de-
veloping the community. Among
objectives for the Chamber of
Commerce he stressed a beauti-
fication program, a youth or-
ganization, city clean up and
street paving program, special
advertising projects by local mer-
local merchants, and many oth-
ers.
Following Mr. Moseley’s in-
formative and interesting talk
a round-table discussion was
held.
J. H. Hill of Medina Lake Bet-
terment Association told of the
need and possibility of a Civil
Defense organization, where, in
case of a disaster rations for 700
people for 14 days, could be se-
cured, provided a place of storage
was available, plus other sup-
plies at about lc on the dollar.
Special events were discussed.
Phil Heavnor announced that in
cooperation with the Frontier
Hotel they would participate in
a Bandera Day at Corpus Christl
on August 13.
The Chamber accepted invi-
tations to place entries in the
September 16 parade in San An-
tonio and the August 1, Aqua
Festival in Austin.
In discussing Bandera as a
retirement place, Col Elmo
Reeves reported that George
Ashe, one of the most famous of
our modern day law enforcement
officers, will move to Bandera
from Colorado to retire here.
