• Graveside service for Tirso
• Garcia, 56, of Big Lake, was held at
• 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 12,
• 1998, in Glen Rest Cemetery in Big
■Lake. A prayer service was held at
;6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, in
■Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in
:San Angelo.
Mr. Garcia died Friday, January
9, 1998, in a San Angelo hospital.
He was born July 4, 1941, in
Mereta and had lived in Big Lake for
25 years. He was a heavy-equip-
ment operator for the Texas Depart-
ment of Transportation.
Survivors include his mother,
Martha Soliz Garcia; his wife,
Gloria Garcia of Big Lake; four
sons, Abel Garcia of Big Lake, and
Ricardo Garcia, Sammy Garcia and
Tommy Garcia, all of Bay City; one
daughter, Linda Morris of Bay City;
five brothers, Enemecio Garcia,
Basilio Garcia, Antonio Garcia,
Roberto Garcia and Juan Manuel
Garcia; five sisters, Ernestina
Martinez, Carmel De La Garza,
Lupe Garcia, Juanita Briones and
Gabriela De La Garza; seven grand-
children Melinda, John, Michael,
Anthony, Joey, Jeffrey and Chelsea.
Pallbearers were John Martinez,
Basilio Garcia, David Cortez, Pete
Garcia, Martin De La Garza and
Johnny Guadarrama.
Virden accepts awards
Jeanne Virden (I) of Big Lake is shown as she accept awards for the Twentieth
Century Club of Big Lake from Barbara Saunders of Marfa, president of the
Western District of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs at the organiza-
tions Fall board Meeting held in Pecos recently. Ms. Virden serves on the
district board as Yearbook Contest Chairman.

flowers, thoughts and friendship during the loss of our
beloved "Poppa Joe".
All of your thoughts and prayers have helped smooth a
rough time. No one knows how good Big Lake is until they
have gone through a time like this.
