Hondo’s 9-hole
course site for
tournaments,
family fun
The Hondo Golf Course was built in
1954 as an added feature to the Hondo
airbase.
The course is a “flat-links type layout
with trees, 13 bunkers and no water haz-
ards. The 9-hole course plays to a par 36
with 2 sets of tees. Maximum yardage of
the course is 5,964 yards.
A driving range, putting green and pro
shop are also available.
From US 90 West, turn north on Cas-
tro Avenue. Located at 703 Disosway, the
course is approximately one-half mile
ahead on the left. Turn left on Harper
Street, and take the next left to the pro
shop. The course is open 8 a.m. to sun-
set Tuesday through Sunday, except on
city holidays; closed on Mondays.
Tournaments are scheduled at the
Hondo course many weekends during
the year.

Make fitness a priority
this year for your family
The Rick Taylor Recreation Center has many programs or
activities you and your family can enjoy. The city’s recreation-
al directors have created a number of programs which offer
something for everyone. Meet up with friends, get out and
meet new people and get active.
Facilities include gymnasium, fitness room, racquetball
court, game room and meeting room.
Children’s programs include basketball, flag football and
volleyball. Summer camps run through June and July for
children ages 6-12. The center even offers Thanksgiving and
Christmas camps.
Swimming lessons are available for ages 4 through adult.
Open swim hours are Tues.-Sat. 11 a.m.-5:45 p.m. and Sun.
1-5:45 p.m.
Adult programs include cardio kick boxing, Zumba, bas-
ketball, walk & weights, step aerobics, circuit cardio, yoga,
strength & conditioning, and in the summer, water aero-
bics. Sports leagues and tournaments are also offered for
adults. The award winning exercise program by Mary Ann
Wilson, Sit to be Fit, is offered to seniors Mon.-Thursday
9-9:30 a.m.
The Rick Taylor Recreation Center is at 602 Harper Street
in Hondo, at the corner of Castro Ave. & Harper St. The
center is open Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 9
p.m., Friday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and
on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
