County sending 17 to UIL state meet
Brownwood, Bangs, Blanket and Zephyr to be represented in Austin this weekend

Seventeen Brown County student-
athletes representing four schools
will make the trek to Austin later
this week to take part in the UIL
state track and field meet.
Schools that will be represented at
the University of Texas’ Myers Sta-
dium include Brownwood in Class
3A, Bangs in Class 2A and Blanket
in Zephyr in Class A Division II.
The Brownwood contingent
includes Lexie Lewis, making her
second consecutive appearance at
state, in the 100 meters and 200
meters; Victoria Henry in the shot
put and the discus; and Dylan Per-
son in the 1600 meters.
The Bangs Lady Dragons mile
relay team of Destany Finley, Kylie
Allen, Charley Lipsey and Liz Pettit
will also be on hand.
Blanket and Zephyr are sending
five athletes each to Austin.
Representing Blanket are Siera
Tippie in the long jump, Rowdy
Johnson in the 100 meters and 200
meters and the 4x200 relay team
of Johnson, Rafael Marquez, Tyler
Martinez and Kaeden Chasteen.
For Zephyr, Haven Rogers will
take part in the 1600 meters, while
the mile relay team of Dillon Wil-
liams, Jayden Choat, Dakota Rogers
and Jayden Ezra also advanced.
On Friday, Tippie will compete in
the long jump at 9 a.m; Johnson
will test his mettle in the 100 me-
ters at 7:05 p.m., run as part of the
4x200 with the rest of the Tigers
at 7:25 p.m. and return for the 200
meters at 8:25 p.m.; Rogers will run
in the 1600 meters at 8:45 p.m.; and
the Bulldogs will take part in the
mile relay at 9:05 p.m.
On Saturday, Henry will compete
in the discus at 9 a.m. and the shot
put at 11 a.m.; the Lady Dragons
will compete in the mile relay at
3:05 p.m.; Lewis will take part in the
100 meters at 7:05 p.m. and the 200
meters at 8:25 p.m.; and Person will
run the mile in the next to last race
of the meet at 8:45 p.m.
The Bulletin will profile the ath-
letes from each school who quali-
fied for state the remainder of the
week.

HONOR ROLL
Crelia voted MVP as Early, Bangs combine for 23 all-district accolades

The 6-2A softball champion Early Lady
Horns were the recipients of 11 all-district
accolades — including four superlative
awards — while a dozen members of the
runner-up Bangs Lady Dragons were hon-
ored by the coaches of the district.
Early pitcher Kelbie Crelia was selected
the overall MVP of the district, while Janae
Williams was tabbed Offensive Player of the
Year, Aspen Escamilla was selected Util-
ity Player of the Year and Betty Molk was
named Coach of the Year.
Earning a superlative award for Bangs was
Charity Sagebiel, who was voted Pitcher of
the Year.
First-team selections included Kassidy
Allen, Sarah Smithey, and Haleigh Lobstein
from Early, along with Kady Kyle, Jaylee
Roberts, Sarah Garcia, Courtney Owen, and
Cheyenne Edwards from Bangs. Allen, Kyle
and Roberts were unanimous selections.
Landing on the second team were Lily
Reagan, Ramsie Rodgers and Preston Smith
for the Lady Horns, accompanied by Lady
Dragons Emily Owen, Maddie Browning and
Haley Pitts.
Early’s Briana Smith received honorable
mention, as did Bangs’ Kassidy Adams,
Kylie Allen and Mercedes Hinze.
The rest of the 6-2A superlative award
winners included Defensive Player of the
Year Christal Garcia of Ballinger, Newcomer
of the Year Faith Gentry of Wall and Catcher
of the Year Savanna Daniel of Wall.
Rounding out the first-team selections
were Jim Ned’s Miranda Griffith, Grape
Creek’s Eva Alvarez, Brady’s Haven Gibbs,
Wall’s Krystal Dusek and Sam Tims and Ball-
inger’s Yani Sanchez and Jessica Good.
Comprising the remainder of the sec-
ond team were Jim Ned’s Megan Lavallee,
Coleman’s Tiana Thomas and Jolyn Zarate,
Grape Creek’s Brittany Preston and Shayna
Daniel, Brady’s Leslie Stewart and Tori Hill,
Ballinger’s Jordan Frierson and Shayann
Matschek and Wall’s Hailey Hernandez,
Taylor Bickford and Tara Weber.

REGION I-2A BASEBALL AREA PLAYOFF SERIES
Dragons, Cisco set to clash again

J.T. Newton and the Bangs Dragons (19-6) will face Cisco in a best of three Region I-2A
baseball area playoff series. Game 1 will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Leander Rouse, as Cisco
has a player competing in the UIL state track meet. Games 2 and 3, if needed, will begin
at 6 p.m. Saturday at McMurry. Bangs owns a 15-0 win and suffered a 1-0 defeat against
Cisco in games played earlier this season.

Athletic physicals, parents
meeting at Early May 10
Free athletic physicals for all Early athletes
and a mandatory parents meeting will take
place Friday, May 10.
Incoming Early ISD seventh, ninth and 11
graders are required to have a physical, as
well as any new athletes to the district or those
with previous injuries.
Physicals begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Early
High School gym, with the parents meeting to
follow at 6:30 p.m. at the same location.

at Brownwood High School
Free physicals for area athletes will be
given at Brownwood High’s Warren Gym on
Saturday, May 11.
Physicals for girls will be held from 8 a.m.

uled for 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

banquet slated for May 13
The Bangs High School Athletic Banquet
will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 13 at
the high school gymnasium.
Tickets are on sale for $10 at the high
school office and the administration office.
Tickets at the door will cost $15.
Early High School athletic
banquet slated for May 21
The Early High School Athletic Banquet will
take place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 at
the Brownwood Coliseum.
Tickets are on sale at the high school
office. Student tickets are $10 in advance, $13
at the door. Adult tickets cost $15 in advance,
$18 at the door.

Dates for Brownwood High School summer

Howard Payne Yellow Jackets basketball
camp will take place June 3-6 at the HPU
Wellness Center. A session for second through

and a session for sixth through eighth graders
from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The cost to register is $70 before May 15
and $75 after that date. If you have more than
one child attempting the camp, the cost is $65
per child.

Howard Payne Lady Jackets basketball
camp will take place June 10-13 at the HPU
Wellness Center. A session for second through

from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The cost to register is $75. If you have
more than one child attempting the camp, the
cost is $65 per child. Registration fee includes
an HPU women’s basketball T-shirt.

Howard Payne Yellow Jackets football
camp will take place June 17-20 at the HPU
McCullough Athletic Center located on the
corner of Second and Hawkins Street.
A session for third through sixth graders
will be held, as well as a session for seventh
through 12th graders. Both sessions will run
from 9 .am. to noon each day.
The cost to register is $60 before June 15
and $70 after that date. If you have more than
one child attempting the camp, the cost is $50
per child. Registration fee includes an HPU
football T-shirt.
