Economy showing signs of recovery
Annual fish fry set for Friday
REFUGIO — The
results are in and the
local and regional econ-
omy is showing signs of
recovery.
Texas A&M Corpus
Christi printed economic
indicators to show the
recovery pattern is much
more than a fluke. The
economy has been ris-
ing continuously since
September.
In February, the Corpus
Christi economy added
2,000 jobs. The gains
were widespread across
different industries. The
trade, transportation and
utilities sector added 500
jobs, while the hospital-
ity sector added 400 jobs.
The government sector
also added 600 jobs.
Over the past year, the
metro area gained 8,500
jobs, nearly 5 percent of
its regional workforce.
The area economy has
shown sustained growth
since September last
year. The official unem-
ployment rate dipped
further to 6.8 percent
in February, the lowest
since the depths of the
last national recession in
2009.

Chamber notes
By Lenny Anzaldua
f .
The booming oil and gas
industry in South Texas
has led to rapid employ-
ment growth in differ-
ent sectors. The jobless
rate for the Coastal Bend
region also dropped to 6.6
percent in February. The
unemployment rates of
the regional communities
are now well below the
statewide average of 7.2
percent, and the nation-
wide average of 8.7 per-
cent.
It’s great to live in a
community that is also,
seeing the growth spurt.
