EAGLE ATTENDS LONGHORN CAMP

Fishing trips always need
reserve plans... just in case
A week had passed
since I had been fishing
so I took off a few hours
before daylight Sunday to
see if I could gig a few
flounder.
As soon as I got to the
bay, I waded out and
caught some finger mul-
let so at daybreak I’d
have my bait. Catching
bait is easier in the dark
before the mullet can see
you.
Then I noticed I for-
got to bring my gig. No
problem. I had a pitch-
fork with me so I adjusted

cleaned it, caught some
bait and started fishing.
I caught a nice hard
head and took a death grip
on it so it couldn’t squirm
around. As I pulled to

mouth, the hook popped
out. With all resistance
gone, I ended up stabbing
myself one inch under my
belly button with the fin.
Ouch!
That didn’t work either. I
didn’t catch another one
of anything.
So I went to Plan E —
go home before something
really bad happens.
At this point, I should
have said, this isn’t my
day and packed it in
but I trudged on. I had
