Castillos to celebrate
golden anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Castillo will cel-
ebrate their golden wedding anniversary
at a family gathering in New Braunfels

School and plans to return to teaching
part-time this fall.
Mary Lou continues her decade battle
with cancer, and Gilbert Sr. has battled
back from cancer. Both have been hon-
ored as cancer survivors in the American
Cancer Society Relay for Life hosted in
Refugio County.
They have raised four children, Gilbert
Jr. (Laura), Viola (Mark Bradbury),
Sonia (Larry Crabb), and Lisa, who each
graduated from RHS and went on to earn
an undergraduate degree.
Gilbert Jr. is also an Army veteran who
served during Operation Desert Storm.
The Castillos have seven grandchildren
and continue
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Castillo
on June 24.
The couple was married in Sinton
50 years ago.
Mary Lou is a retired cosme-
tologist, published poet, and former
business owner of Mary Lou’s Hair
Fashions.
Coach Gilberto is the 1963 vale-
dictorian of Sinton High School and |
holds a master’s degree in bilingual/
bicultural education.
Castillo retired in 2011, following
44 years as an educator. He is the
former tennis coach at Refugio High
to reside
Refugio.
Bellows, Summers
to wed Oct. 20
REFUGIO — Lisa Summers of
Woodsboro is pleased to announce the
engagement and upcoming marriage of
her daughter, Siera Brooke Summers
of Woodsboro, to Carl Timothy Bellows
of Refugio, son of Mr. and Mrs. Terry
Bellows.
The couple plan to exchange wedding
vows at 3 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Our Lady of
Refuge Catholic Church in Refugio.
The bride’s grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. Bryce Boenig of Woodsboro;
the late Ralph Summers; Leo Fricks of
Woodsboro and the late Doris Fricks.
The grooms grandparents are Lorene
Johnson of Refugio and the late Jack
Johnson; and Mr. and Mrs. Dewey
Bellows Sr. of Three Rivers.
Butterscotch sauce great for ice cream
It’s almost time for homemade ice cream.
Bought will do. This is a topping that is good
on ice cream, pudding and angel food cake. This
came from Jan Armstrong, the astronaut’s wife.
She said it “was her mothers recipe.” It keeps
almost forever in a closed jar in the refrigerator.
Butterscotch sauce
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 pint (20 cups corn syrup
1/4 pound butter
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup heavy cream
not
com-
1 tablespoon
vanilla
Heat (do
boil) and
bine the sugar,
corn syrup, but-
ter and salt until
sugar dissolves.
Cool, add cream
and vanilla to cool
mixture. Beat
