Dinner Tonight Healthy
Cooking School gets
underway April 9
All students attending
school in McCulloch County,
in the following age divisions:
first through sixth grade and
seventh through 12th grade
are encouraged to participate
in the second annual poster
contest sponsored by the Mc-
Culloch County Child Welfare
Board.
Posters entered will be
used, at the discretion of the
McCulloch County Child
Welfare Board, for the Child
Abuse Prevention campaign
which will be held throughout
the month of April 2013.
Rules include the follow-
ing:
• 19 x 24 poster board only
• Must be student’s original
slogan and artwork
• No syndicated, copy-
righted or clipart images.
• No computer aided or
copy-machine poster entries.
• Completed entry form
must be attached to the back
upper right comer of each
poster submitted.
The Texas A&M Agri-
Life Extension Service-
McCulloch County Office,
the FUMC Wesley Nurse
and the Department of State
Health Services are present-
ing classes for moms, dads
and grandparents of infants
and toddlers, Tuesday, April
9, beginning at 10 a.m. atFirst
Baptist Church.
Many packages of dia-
pers—compliments of
Walmart of Brady and the
McCulloch Child Welfare
Board—are given away as
door prizes at each meeting.
This month's program will
offer information on brain
development and nutrition
All entries become the
property ofMcCulloch County
Child Welfare Board. The
right to modify any poster for
reproduction is reserved.
The final date for poster
entry is 3 p.m., Monday, March
25. Posters may be turned into
the student’s current school.
The theme mustbe an origi-
nal concept. The poster should
be artistic and communicate
that child abuse is a crime
against children and children
must be protected from harm.
Students could win $25 or
$20 in gift cards, and prizes
will be awarded for first and
second place in each age
category at each of the three
McCulloch County schools.
First prize winners will then
be entered into the grand prize
category.
Grand prize awards will
be given in each age group:
first through sixth grade grand
prize - $50 gift card; seventh
through 12th grade grand prize
- $50 gift card.

are held every second Tues-
day from 10-11 a.m. at First
Baptist Church, 1103 W. 17th
St., in Brady. Moms-to-be are
always welcome to attend.

be presented by Texas A&M
AgriFife Extension Service
on Tuesday, April 9, from
6:30-8:30 p.m. at Brown
County Youth Fair Home

Doors will open at 5 p.m.
“While there are many
groups who conduct cook-
ing schools, we believe the
Dinner Tonight Healthy
Cooking School has a uni que
niche,” said Dr. Susan Bal-
labina, Regional Program
Director for Family and
Consumer Sciences of the
Texas A&M AgriLife Exten-
sion Service.
“During the cooking
school, everyone will see
demonstrations of quick and
easy-to-make recipes from
the 30-page 'Dinner Tonight
Cookbook'." The unique
cookbook contains 12 meal
plans and all the recipes,
including entrees, sides and
desserts—perfect for busy
families.
"We are targeting busy
people who still want to make
time for meal preparation and
feel good about what they
are feeding themselves and
their family. Our goals are
to promote family mealtime,
teach families healthy meal
planning and food prepara-
tion techniques, and promote
Texas agriculture.”
The event is being spon-
sored by Texas A&M AgriF-
ife Extension Service and
will feature county Extension
agents and celebrity chef,
Darlene Walton. After 21
years in the catering business,
chef Darlene decided to fol-
low her dreams of becoming
a certified chef and graduated
from the Dallas Arts Institute
in 2005.
She serves as an ambas-
sador promoting the Dallas
Arts Institute to high school
students and has participated
in the Dallas State Fair Ce-
lebrity Chef Show for seven
years. She is also an instructor
in the Culinary Arts depart-
ment at Texas State Technical
College in Abilene.
All participants will re-
ceive a cookbook, gift bag
full of goodies, and a chance
to win door prizes, including
a KitchenAid® Stand Mixer.
The cost of the cooking
school is $20 if paid by April
1 or $25 at the door.

meeting planned April 9

4-H HORSE JUDGING—This past weekend this
group of girls traveled to Collin County just north of
Dallas and competed in the Collin County Open Horse
Judging Contest. This was one of the toughest contests
as far as the quality and performance ability of the horses
of which the judging teams have had the opportunity
to compete in. The junior team of Taylore Ashton (11),
Rylee McKinney (10) and Giselle Ashton (9) proudly
accepted their first place junior team plaque, halters and
blue rosettes. Individual awards went to Rylee McKinney
for placing second overall, second in the halter division
and third in the performance division. Giselle Ashton
also placed individually as third overall, first in the halter
and fifth in performance. Taylore Ashton placed second
in the performance division. In the judging intermediate
division, Jayce McKinney (12) placed fourth overall as
