Wednesday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. It H. <Bob» Floyd, the ladle*
of the First Christian Church com-
posing the I»yal C!a&s and Missionafy
Society, entertained with a going away
party to honor their teacher and co-
worker, Mrs. W. B, Smith, who with
her family ir> leaving to make their
home in Temple.
Decorative appointment* featured a
red and white motif. Forty-two and
other games were played after which
Mrs. Smith was given a spool of un-
wound thread and instructed to follow
and wind until she reached the end.
Instead of the traditional pot of gold
at end of rainbow, the honor guest
found a large cake beautifully de-
corated In embossed design, with her
name reading across.
As a farewell gift the ladles pre-
sented to Mrs. Smith a handsome
pineapple linen dinner cloth with
matching napkins, and a lovely crystal
vase,

Phillips was hostess to the Dos Mesa
Club and a number of other guests
when she named Mrs. W. B. Smith
and Mrs. W E. White, club members,
and Mrs. J. E. Cooke, as honor guests.
A most unusual and attractive
scheme was employed In the decora-
tions. Colorful spring garden flowers
shown through the crystal chimney of
old fashion lamps, and interspersed
at vantage points about the room were
"ye olden" bowls which held seasonal
blossoms. Score accessories for bridge
repeated the spring motif.
In the games, Mrs. S. C. Miles won
high and was awarded a set of table
mats. For lew, j. o. Newton received
a set of cellophane bowl covers.
Much to their surprise the three
honor guests were presented showers
ol handkerchiefs as a farewell thought
from their friends who regret to see
them leave Rockdale.
Refreshments of hot chocolate, cake,
mints and nuts were served.
Announcement has been made of
the marriage of Miss Margaret Holli-
day, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W
Holliday of this city to Robert L
Toellner, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L
Tocllner of Hutto.
The ceremony took place at the
home of the Rockdale Baptist preach-
er, Rev. Askew, at nine o'clock Sat-
urday night, March 1. The couple was
attended by the bride’s parents.
The bride wore a dress of brown
and beige with beige accessories. The
groom was attired in a suit of dark
blue.
Miss Holliday is a graduate of Rock-
dale High School, having finished in
1939. She has also completed a secre-
tarial course at Durham's Business
Institute in Austin. The groom finish-
ed Hutto High School in 1938.
The couple Is now residing in Hutto
where Mr. Toellner owns a garage.

The regular meeting of the Rock-
dak; Parent-Teacher Association will
be held at the high school auditorium
on Tuesday, March 11 at 3:15 o’clock.
The president, Mrs. S. T. Srhrocder,
urges that there be a large attendance
at this meeting. On March 12, a coun-
ty meeting of the P.-T. A. will be held
at Buckholts and all ladles who plan
to attend are asked to take a prepared
covered dish.

cluding the Rural Carriers, 1 wish to

as a member of your beautiful little
city during the few, brief years that I
have spent among you. I know it was
because of the true helpful life that
my dear husband, John E. Cooke, lived
while in your midst.
It Is my cherished hope that I have

Married March 3
Monday morning. March 3, Miss
Ethel Ruth Ward became the bride
of Robert L. Ford of San Antonio.
They were married In Cameron in the
Episcopal church, by Rev. J. P. Love.
Mrs. Ford is the youngest daughter
of Mrs. Maurlne Ward of Rockdale.
Mr. Ford is with the Sheriff's depart-
ment in Bexar county.
Mrs. Ford was lovely in dusty rose
crepe with wine accessories. Mr. Ford
wore a dark suit.
The happy couple left that after-
noon for San Antonio to make their

The following poem appeared in the
Austin Tribune and was composed
home of Mrs. C. W. Stephens
spend-the-day party on Thursday,
when Mrs. C. K. Stribling, Mrs. J. E
Yates and Mrs. Brownie Laurence
were the co-hostesses.
During the forenoon the ladies sew-
ed for the Red Cross, completing the
quota of mens shirts. A luncheon,
made up of covered dishes brought by
members, was served at noon. Each
member also provided a gift package
which sold for twenty-five cents to
the person drawing assigned numbers.
This created interest and added to
funds of class.
In the afternoon a business session
was held and a devotional program
carried out, after which coffee and
cake were served.

her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil (Pete)
Williams at Bethlehem. The white
cake held three pink tapers which

The litlte girl is a granddaughter
of J. M. Williams of Sandy Creek and
of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Caywood of Tal-
bott Ridge, and a great grandchild of
Mrs. W. I. Caywood of Rockdale.
Among the guests were Mrs. A. R.
Rial and grandson. Gene Kelly of Tal-
bott Ridge and Edward Williams of
Rockdale.
Lutheran Ladies
Aid Meets at
Church Feb. 19th
The Rockdale Ladles’ Aid met Feb-
ruary 19 in the church basement, Mrs.
Emil Timmerman acting as hostess.
The meeting opened by singing
"Stand Up, Stand Up.” Scripture les-
son, Psalm 72 and prayer was given by
the pastor. After singing "Faith of
Our Father,” the topic, Dr. Greenfell,
was presented by Rev. Schroeder. The
meeting closed with the singing of "O
Zion Haste.” and by the Lord’s Prayer.
After the business meeting refresh-
ments were served by Mrs. Emil Tim-
mermann to a happy group.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Menn accom-
panied Mrs. Anton Strelsky to Dallas
over the week end to visit relatives.
Mrs. Weldon Strelsky returned home
with them to spend a few weeks in the
home of Mrs. Anton Strelsky.

Belle Elsenbcrg were quietly married
at Milano Saturday night. Only a
few friends and a sister of the bride
witnessed the ceremony. The bride is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elsen-
berg of Milano, the groom is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Todd of Mi-
nerva.
Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Holder of
Tracy are the parents of a nine pound
girl, bom on February 19, 1941. She
has been named Gloria Ann. Her
grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. G. C j
Holder of nallas and Mr. and Mrs. J. I
R. Hunt of Rockdale. Gloria Ann is
the second child of Mr. and Mrs.
Holder.
ROCKDALE GARDEN CLUB
The Rockdale Garden Club will meet
with Mrs. Louis Gest on next Wednes-
day, March 12, at 3 o’clock. Mrs. T.
S. Barkley will talk on Landscaping
of Rock Gardens, and Mrs. Earl Ryan
will discuss Borders and Hedge Plants.
A pilgrimage over the city Is planned
to follow the meeting.
Mrs. John M. Weed visited in San
Antonio last week as guest of Mrs. O.
C. Uhl, and had the pleasure of re-
newing many acquaintances of her
girlhood. Mr. Weed and daughter,
Miss Jerry, Joined her on Sunday for
the trip home.

Bailey of that city and Earl Perry were
