A picnic style dinner was served. The
children received many nice and use-
ful gifts.
Dorothy Fay and Douglas Ray are
the twin babies of Mr. and Mrs, Theo
Springer and were G years old.

Honors Soldier
At Bushdale Home
Pvt. Melvin E. Eiland, of Camp Wal-
lace, who Is here on furlough visiting
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marcus
Eiland of Gay Hill, was honored with a
chicken barbecue dinner Sunday, given
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Menn at Bushdale.
The bountiful menu consisted of
chicken and mutton barbecue, salads,
pickles, bread, cake, pies, Ice cream
and grapejuice.
Those attending were Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Menn, Rucben, Marvin anu
Flora Menn, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Menn, Mrs. Betty Henniger, Mrs.
Adolph Stork and son, Adolph; Mr.
and Mrs. Eddie Brown and daughter,
Earlene, Mrs. Lucy Stork, all of Bush-
dale; Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Eiland and
sons Melvin and Billy, Mr. and Mrs-.
Marvin Young arid children, Barbara;
Wallace, and Ollie, Mr. and Mrs. Dick
Young and son Graham, E. E. Eiland.
Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Eiland and daugh-

Mrs. Manley Cuzzort has been ill
for the past two weeks.
Eddie Joe Cooper is visiting in Ban
Antonio.
Dr. and Mrs. T. S. Barkley were in
Ennis over the week end visiting his
mother, Mrs. H. P. Barkley.
Mr. and Mrs. John Gamblll of Hous-
ton were guests last week of his aunt,
Miss Mary Gamblll.
Mrs. Otto Schukraft is in Ft. Worth
visiting her mother. Mrs. Hosea and
sister, Mrs. Lois Knox.
Mrs. Manley Cuzzort has returned
home after visiting several weeks in
Dallas with relatives.
Wayne Kornegay of Houston spent
the week end with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. J. D. Kornegay.
Edward Luckey, stationed with the
Air Corps at Amarillo spent the week
end with his family here.
Mr. and Mrs. Dorrell Luckey and
family have been visiting his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Luckey.
Joe Cooper is visiting a few days
this week with a nephew, and his
daughter, Ann Quinn at San Antonio.
Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Hurdle and sons
of Oglesby spent Friday and Saturday
with Mrs. E. D. Hardie and daughter.
R. B. Elckenhorst, of Houston visited
a few hours in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. T. C. Stephens Saturday.
Mrs Leita Jenkins and little son,
Wayne of Rockdale, left Thursday for
Trinity where they will spend a few
weeks with her father and mother,
Mr. and Mrs. Trawick.
Mrs. J C. Stabler and son, Calvin,
of Bryan, have been visiting her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. B. N. Davenport,
Mrs. Wyatt H. Gilbert and daughters
of Austin visited last week with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Robertson
Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Davidson of
Kihcer. .spen* last, week In this their
former home, with friends and rel-
atives.
Mr and Mrs. Guy Thomson of Beau-
mont spent the week end with Mr.
and Mrs. H. M. Luckey and Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Harris.
Ernest (Buck) Henry was rushed to
a Temple hospital in a critical condi-
tion Saturday night. His condition is
reported much improved at this time.
Mrs. H. H. Richter who is in a
Temple hospital is reported recovering
nicely from an operation performed
this week.
Mrs. Nellie Neal of Rockdale had as
her guest Sunday Mr. and Mrs. J. J.
Faulkner, also her son and wife, Mr.
and Mrs. Leroy Jenkins,
Miss Eva Dale Edmonds was here
from Bryan spending the week end
with her mother, Mrs. Charlie Mc-
Cawley and Mr. MoCawley.
Mrs. Lena Loewenstein and daugh-
ter, Mrs. S. S. Tharp, have returned
from a visit to Las Cruses, New Mcx-1
lco.
Miss Mary Lee Dreher and Sgt. Les-
lie Thompson spent several days in
Brownwood last week as guests of her
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Sea-y, and with his relatives, Sgt.
Thompson left Tuesday for Camp Ab-
bott, Oregon.
Mrs. C. B. Sessions underwent an
operation in a Temple hospital on
Wednesday of this week ,
Mr. ami Mrs. H. H. Turner and son,
Bobbie of Palacios spent several days
here this week visiting Miss Nettle
Turner.
These visiting in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Manley Cu2zort Sunday were
Mr, and Mrs. Emmett Cuzzort and
son of Conoley.
Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mor-
gan, August 19, a baby boy, weight 10
pounds, who has been named Roger
Keith.

Clark Stephens Jr. left Tuesday for
Houston where he Is employed and will
be with Mr. and Mrs. BUI Sheckles
and R. B. Elckenhorst.
Emmltt McGuire of Houston spent
the week end with his mother, Mrs.
Lloyd McGuire. He was accompanied
back to Houston by his aunt, Miss
Della Brockenbush who is visiting Mr.
and Mrs. Wynett Harris.
Miss Audrey Faye Scarbrough, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Scar-
brough of the Bethlehem community,
a graduate of BrackJenridge High
School, San Antonio, writes her par-
ents that she is attending a four weeks
course at Springfield, Mo., after fin-
ishing a business course at San An-
tonio, and Is making splendid grades.
With her Is Miss Mary Alice Brocken-
bush of Rockdale, and also two other
girls from San Antonio.

78th Birthday
On August 21, 1943, Lite relatives of
Mrs. Jane Sapn, nephew of J. B. Sapp
of Rockdale, met In Cameron to honor
her on her birthdny. She was 78 years
old August 25, 1943.
Tiie bountiful basket lunch and
beautiful three-tiered birthday cake
made one forget rationing momentar-
ily. She received many lovely gifts
among which were a number of what-

hobby.
There wpre five children, nineteen
grandchildren, three great grandchil-

two visitors present. There were eight
