was much delayed last week as we
had showers every day. The ground
is still muddy and cotton looks dam-
aged and burrs are beginning to rot.
A number still have corn in the
field and also hay that isn’t baled.
The river overflow has damaged a
number of crops.

Salty. Sept. 6.—A heavy rain has
fallen here every day since Thurs-
day of the (vast week and pros(>ects
look now as if it will continue for
several days longer. Cotton is bad-
ly damaged by the rain and quite a
lot of feed stuff will be ruined.
Quite a lot of fall gardens have been
planted and are looking line.
Hugh Calfey Jr. was very sick the
past week with diphtheria, but is
much better at this writing.
Clarence Jackson had the misfor-
tune of losing one of his work mules
the past week.
Mack Jinks lias returned from
Port Arthur where he spent the past

are much improved from their re-
cent illness and are visiting their

Sipe Springs, Sept. 4.—-At last we
have had so much rain it is injur-
ing us. and our roads are in a de-
nlorable condition. They are wash-
ed out, bridges ruined and no tra-
veling until road work is done, but
the ground is too wet and every day
we have more rains. Saturday we
had about seven inches of rain with
wind, thunder and lightening.
Mrs. Lewis Davenport who has
been in Carlsbad for her health, has
returned to her home Her cure is
not complete and she will continue
the treatment at home.
Marvin West, who has been on the
black land picking cotton, came in
last Friday and says cotton is bad-
