HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY
Plans are being final-
ized for Howard Payne's
Celebration Week, April
12-16, featuring the
Inauguration of Dr. William
N. Ellis as the university's
19th president.
The week-long slate of
events will highlight HPU's
history and mission through
the theme "Heritage,
Purpose, Unity." Additional
Celebration Week events
include the dedications of
the newly renovated Mims
Auditorium and the Paul
and Jane Meyer Faith and
Life Leadership Center.
Also scheduled are the third
annual Currie-Strickland
Distinguished Lectures in
Christian Ethics.
"My wife, Diana, and
I have been looking for-
ward to Celebration Week,
which will be an exciting
time for Howard Paynewith the much-anticipated
facility dedications along
with many other significant
events. We would be hon-
ored to have alumni and
friends participate in the
week's festivities," said
Bill Ellis.
On Monday, April 12,
and Tuesday, April 13,
faculty members will give
presentations on "Heritage,
Purpose, Unity" at noon in
the Bullion Suites of the
Mabee University Center.
On Wednesday, April
14, activities will include
the Currie-Strickland
Distinguished Lectures
in Christian Ethics, with
emphasis on the ethical
teachings of the late Dr.
Nat Tracy, a member of
HPU's Bible faculty from
1950-1975. The event will
be held from 1:30-4:30
p.m. in the Richard and
Wanda Jackson Conference
Room, inside the Paul and
Jane Meyer Faith and Life-

Contemporary
Christian artist Jimmy
Needham is the headliner
for the 15th Annual HPU
Fest at Howard Payne on
April 10.
Performing music
from his latest album,
Nightlights, Needham is
bringing his Nightlights
World Tour 2010 to the
HPU campus, along
with performers Echoing
Angels and Jason Gray.
A Texas-based artist,
Needham loves to sharehis faith through music.
He said his sound is a
combination of rock with
soulful pop and a hint of
blues. After signing with
Tennessee-based contem-
porary Christian record
label Inpop in 2006, he
released the album Speak,
followed by Not Without
Love in 2008.
Additional HPU Fest
performers include Ben
Rector, Justin Cofield
Band, Miranda Dodson
and HPU student per-
formers Katie Curry, One
Less Stone, Vinyl Club,
Chronic Frailty and Rise
to the Challenge.The free all-day con-
cert will begin at 3 p.m.
in Old Main Park, and is
open to students and the
Brownwood community.
For the first time, the con-
certs will be performed on
two fully produced stages,
allowing for a continuous
flow of music throughout
the day.
HPU Fest will be
held in conjunction with
Stinger Daze, a one-day
event providing prospec-
tive students with the
opportunity to experience
student life on campus
while interacting with
current students, faculty4
and staff. Admitted stu-
dents for the Fall 2010
semester will also have
the opportunity to meet
their advisers and register
early for classes.
HPU Fest will also
feature a chili cook-off,
refreshments, vendor
booths and artists' mer-
chandise for sale. For

Jimmy Needham, a contemporary Christian artist, is slated to
perform at the 15th HPU Fest on April 10. Other bands such
as Justin Cofield Band, Chronic Frailty and Vinyl Club will also
perform during the day-long festivities.featuring HPU alumna Dr.
Cynthia Clawson Courtney
'70. Dr. Courtney has
received a Grammy and
five Dove Awards for her
work and was inducted into
the Texas Gospel Music
Hall of Fame in 2005.
On Friday, at 8:30 a.m.,
the Community Worship
Service will be held in
Grace Chapel featuring
Alicia Williamson Garcia,
a noted artist, author, tele-
vision host and founder of
Women in Worship.
Also on Friday, the Pre-
Inaugural Concert present-
ed by the School of Music
and Fine Arts will take
place in Mims Auditorium
at 10:30 a.m. The Inaugural
Convocation for Dr.
William N. Ellis will follow
at 11 a.m. Concluding the
Celebration Week festivi-
ties will be the Inaugural
Reception at 12:30 p.m. on
