Rehearsals for “Oliver!”
will begin on June 15
Open auditions for the Lee College
and Baytown Little Theater joint sum-
mer production of the well-known mu-
sical “Oliver!” will be held next week
at the college Performing Arts Center
(PAC).
Written by Lionel Bart and based on
the classic Charles Dickens’ novel, “Ol-
iver Twist,” the musical tells the story of
an orphan who runs away from a harsh
workhouse orphanage and ends up join-
ing a group of boys trained by an older
gentleman to be pickpockets. Auditions
are set to begin at 7 p.m., Sunday, June
8, and Monday, June 9.
Members of the community are in-
vited to try out for one of 50 parts in
the show, including 16 principal roles.
Male and female adults and children are
needed; participants must be at least 8
years old by the date of auditions to be
eligible for casting, and parents should
plan to accompany children under the
age of 12 to the auditions.
Actors will deliver prepared mono-
logues and do scene readings from the
script. There will also be solo and group
singing of prepared song selections, and
a dance combination.
Rehearsals for “Oliver!” will begin
Sunday, June 15, at the PAC. Perfor-
mances are scheduled for Aug. 1-3 and
Aug. 8-10.
