Seniors go out in style; Bears finish 4th in District 25AAAA
By Ellen Moore
Though Bastrop ended up fourth
in District 25AAAA behind
McCallum, Travis and Del Valle,
Bear Coach Marvin Hall expressed
pleasure with the way his boys
played all season and was especial-
ly pleased with their efforts in their
last two games of the season
against McCallum and Del Valle
on February 13 and 16.
Against McCallum, the Bears
lost 83-69 “in one of our better
games,’’ Hall said, “against the
hardest team we’ve played.”
And while out of the district
race, Bastrop showed courage
against the district winner—in the
first round of play the Bears lost
to McCallum by 23 points, 73-50.
This loss by 14 points was a decid-
ed improvement.
The Bears jumped out to a 21-16
first quarter lead then hit a dry spell
and were outscored 22 to 6 in the
second quarter to fall behind 38-27
at the half. The third quarter was
no better, as the Bears lagged
57-44, before going on to lose
83-69.
“They outscored us in the se-
cond and third quarters but we
played one of our better games,”

like when they hit the floor our
defense went out the window.”
In the last game of the season,
against 3rd ranked Del Valle, the
Bears showed their stuff and won
69-59. In the first round of district
play the Bears had lost by four,
