Coleman County Without TIRES?
Don’t Be An
Empty Back
Seat Shopper
Whenever you drive your car on a short or
extended trip, offer to share the unoccupied
seats with your neighbors.
On successive trips each of the befriended
neighbors will offer to return the favor and
share their car with you. In this way tire usage
will be reduced $f)% which means a propor-
tionate increase in the life of your tires.
The Government urges you to be patriotic,
economical and neighborly by sharing your car.
Don’t be an empty back seat shopper.

Unlike other parts of the country, West Texans do not have the advantages of inter-
urban, street railway, electric trains, subways and bus service every few minutes,
consequently during the years they have learned to depend almost entirely on their
automobiles for transportation. Now, with 90% of the world’s raw rubber in the
hands of the enemy and with no prospects of replenishing the present supply of tires
for some time to come, steps must be taken to conserve the tires now in use so as to
make them last the greatest period of time and not upset an economic structure built
around automotive transportation.
This newspaper offers one suggestion to the thousands of housewives in this area
that will materially aid them to conserve tires and yet not interrupt the essential
shopping trips necessary to the normal conduct of home management: The plan is
simply this: Plan your shopping trips with the aid of die advertisements in this and
subsequent issues of The Democrat-Voice and then invite at least four of your
neighbors to go along with you. In turn, each of the four neighbors will invite you,
and in this way thousands and thousands of tire miles will be added to the life of the
present supply of tires.
