said Davis Vickers, county tax
assessor-collector. Only 222 poll
tax receipts and exemptions had
been issued through October,
November and to Dec. 27.
The deadline for payment of
poll tax is January 31. 1966.
The applications for poll tax re-
ceipts are not running too far
behind schedule, for it is al-
most an annual occurence for
the voters to w-ait until the last,
month to pay poll tax and ob-
tain exemption receipts. But,
with an election year ahead it
is to be expected that the "run"
on the tax office will be heavy
in January, said Vickers.
Rainfall for 1965 in Taft
amounted to 31.1 inches up
