THE WYLIE MINISTERIAL ALLIANCE PRESENTS...
Good News!
This week's guest is Pastor David Eden, pastor
of True Vine Fellowship and member of the
Wylie Ministerial Alliance.
The Face of Thanks Giving
What does Thanksgiving look like? It looks like
the woman-of-the-night who heard the new
rabbi talk of God’s love. So she crashed a din-
1
ner party where he was a guest. She ran to him crying and began to wash
his feet with her tears, to dry them with her hair! The religious folks gath-
ered there that night were disgusted. How dare such a lady enter here!
How dare he let such a lady touch him! But the rabbi told them a story:
Once there were two men who were in debt. One man owed $1,000, the
other $10,000. Their creditor, in a burst of generosity, forgave both their
debts! Then the rabbi stared at the guests and asked: So, who do you think
was more thankful? They all got the point. The one who was forgiven the
most. That’s why the woman was so grateful and they weren’t. She had a
lot to be forgiven for and so a lot to be thankful for! And her gratitude just
poured out.
What does Thanksgiving look like? Of course, it looks like that first, awe-
some Thanksgiving feast... those brave Pilgrims and Indians who suf-
fered and learned so much together and became grateful friends.
What docs Thanksgiving look like? Look around today! It looks like
Promise Keepers: men praying in large and small groups to become more
thankful husbands, dads, citizens and Christians. It looks like Moms-in-
Touch: mothers who are gathering in homes to thank God and pray for
their Wylie school kids and teachers. It looks like the Wylie Football
Team: who kept their poise and positive attitude through a tough and
thankless season.
It looks like Wylie’s Christian Care Week: where the thanks giving flowed
in schools, grocery stores, bake sales at banks, a Care Concert and more!
Did you know that over SI70,000 has been given to the Christian Care
Center in the last five years? That’s a lot of Thanks!
But Thanksgiving mostly looks like little Birmingham third-grader
Nicole Young, who with her parents’ help has started her own aluminum
can drive to raise money for the Center! “CC4CC”-Collecting Cans for
Christian Care! (Drop off sites are at McDonald’s and Provident Bank)
W'ay to go, little pilgrim.
As you sit down to enjoy your holiday feast, 1 pray it’s with those you
love. And if you’re feeling a little ungrateful... take another look at what
rabbi Jesus has done for you. Then why not join Nicole and these others
in a few more gutsy acts of Happy Thanks Giving?

F.....■ lhere has been a newspaper
8 in Wylie since 1889. Tom
-X. Perkins named his newspa-
per Wylie Rustler. He sold it to J.B.
Baskette in the early 1900s, who
printed it until about 1920. On Feb.
11, 1926, J.W. Randle published a
paper called The Wylie Herald. For
several years Wylie had no newspa-
per. However, in 1947 Raul W.
Stimson began The Wylie News. In
1948 Burton Fielder purchased the
paper. Then C. Truett Smith pur-
chased The Wylie News from
Fielder. It became the largest week-
ly in Collin County. The Wylie
News is now owned and published
by Chad B. Engbrock who pur-
chased lire paper in 1993. It
remains the largest weekly in
Collin County.
